The Great Pumpkin: 1978 Lincoln Continental

5

Reader Dean B. sent in this great 1978 Lincoln Continental find from Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. It’s for sale here on kijiji for $11,195. I’ve been trying to figure out if it’s really orange, or if that’s just a trick my eyes are playing on me. The interior picture below lends credence to the orange theory, but I’m old enough to remember when these were new, and I don’t remember them being available in orange. On the other hand, what a great car to take the kids trick-or-treating in–room for everyone and what a color scheme, just in time for Halloween! Although that price seems a little high, the car really does look nice, and maybe it’s just an asking price. What do you think? Would you drive this giant pumpkin?

The Canadian dollar was trading at $0.77 to the $1USD earlier this week, so it may be a slightly better deal than the price indicates. That and the conversion from kilometers is maybe 70,000 miles.

My kids would love this, but I’m still working on my wife to get a GM wagon from the ’70s or ’80s.

It’s gold for f$&@s sake – Ford used it all thru the 70s

I had a 78 Mercury Zephyr station wagon in this color. Amazing paint, even in the rust belt, that paint really held up well to salt and road sand. Best paint i ever had on a Ford Co. product. But sooo 70’s.

Y’all know that Alberta is the province and Lethbridge is the city, yes?

I had a friend in the late 1990’s want to give me a 1978 the same color because he was moving. A nice offer but that 460 engine used A LOT of GAS. It was a smooth riding car though. I already had a 1973 chevy impala.

Love the orange crush interior. The most important detail here is, which engine does it have?

I remember a writeup on these that said “Most 400-equipped Continentals put in 100,000 hard-stressed miles and die, while the 460 is a heavy-duty engine based on a truck block that can go 300,000+ easily.”

Is this what Charlie Brown has been sitting in the pumpkin patch and watching for all these years? At least they have 4 wheel disk brakes so they can stop!

    It is a great survivor.

Is the color really this orange or is it just the seller’s photos that make it look like a pumpkin?

I’m almost tempted to drive to Lethbridge this weekend just to check on the actual color!
