Tidy Off-Roader: 1965 Ford F-100 4×4

Finding a classic pickup that is in good condition, would happily cruise on the open road, but can plunge its occupant deep into the wilderness, can be a battle. That is what appears to be on offer with this 1965 Ford F-100 4×4. It presents exceptionally well for its age and has few needs. A previous owner has added a few aftermarket touches that should make life on the road a pleasant experience. If you find this too appealing to resist, you will find the F-100 listed for sale here on Bring-a-Trailer. It is located in Manheim, Pennsylvania, and bidding has already reached $12,500. There is still time left on the listing, so you could stake your claim on this classic.

This F-100 rolled off the line wearing Wimbledon White paint, and the seller indicates that it has received a cosmetic refresh under the care of a previous owner. It continues to present nicely, and while they aren’t clearly visible in the supplied photos, the seller indicates that the paint has accumulated a few chips and marks. There’s nothing that would demand immediate attention, so the 4×4 could be driven and enjoyed as it stands. The bed looks a bit scratched and marked, and this is one aspect of the exterior that may require attention before corrosion can set in. Otherwise, this classic appears to have little more than some surface corrosion on some of the underside mechanical components. The panels are straight and rust-free, with no significant dings or dents. The chrome shines nicely for a survivor of this age, and the glass appears flawless. The previous owner has fitted larger 15″ wheels and tires, and these combine to give the F-100 a purposeful appearance.

Ford offered several engine choices for buyers in 1967, and this F-100 features the 300ci inline-six. This motor is a bit of a powerhouse, producing 170HP and an impressive 283 ft/lbs of torque. Shifting duties fall to a four-speed manual transmission, while a dual-range transfer case and Warn locking hubs give the vehicle excellent off-road capabilities. The seller indicates that the vehicle received a recent service and brake inspection. He doesn’t elaborate on how well it runs or drives, but the engine bay looks tidy for a vehicle of this type. I say that with a note of caution because there is ample evidence of some rattle-can work on the motor and some repainting in the engine bay. Neither task has been completed to a high standard, but it still looks presentable. The underside shots show no evidence of long-term fluid leaks, while this shot is also encouraging In that respect.

Turning our attention to the interior, it is another aspect of this F100 that presents well. The seat wears an aftermarket cover in cloth and vinyl, while the mat on the floor is also relatively new. The painted surfaces shine nicely, while the gauges and wheel are in excellent condition for their age. Aftermarket additions included a cluster of gauges, some under the dash and some within the gauge cluster itself, and a Sony CD player with door-mounted speakers. The spinner mounted on the wheel is a practical addition when the going gets tough, allowing easier maneuverability of this 4×4 in tight spaces. Overall, it appears that this old Ford’s interior needs nothing.

There’s a lot to like about this 1965 F-100 4×4, and its condition is above average for a vehicle of this type and age. It obviously won’t suit somebody who seeks an original and unmolested classic, but for somebody who simply wants a tidy and clean 4×4 that can take them anywhere they wish to go, it seems to fulfill that requirement. With values continuing to increase, it has the potential to be an excellent long-term investment if it is treated with ongoing care and respect. Is this F-100 pickup one that you would be interested in pursuing further?

Another BaT listing? If you read the listings there,
the majority of vehicles have been bought within the last
few months/last year,& most of them are being sold by
    dealers.
I hope this site doesn’t end up like that.

Looks good. Someone has changed the ignition over to electronic which is fine. The truck has definitely been gone through. I don’t think that the ’65 engine was blue, much less, Old Ford Blue. A 4×4 of this vintage is quite a rare occurrence although not entirely uncommon. I knew a guy in East Glacier who bought a ’66 brand new, and it looked just like this one although his had a 352 engine. Yes, I could take this truck home…

A great truck with a great drivetrain combo. Always liked the 300. There is a lot that can be done to this engine to increase the performance. Not a fan of the rims, but that can be corrected easily. What? No plaid seat cover? Big fan of white. When trucks were trucks that were built to last!

    Well, if that’s a ’65 it’s got a ’66 grille in it.

If this is a 1965 then the grill has been changed. The grill is a 1966 model.

If it was dark green, and had a Colorado Game And Fish plaque on the doors, it could be the first 4×4 that was issued to my dad (game warden in Craig ). Tough truck, fight those drifts, , and haul hay and horses. Lots of memories there. Great heater!
