UPDATE – Due to a change in circumstance, the seller has requested that we stop the auction.

Some hot rods are built to impress from ten feet away, while others reveal the quality of their craftsmanship the closer you get. This 1929 Ford Model A Roadster appears to fall squarely into the second category. Combining traditional hot rod styling with meticulous attention to detail, this Highboy wears an original 1929 Model A Roadster body atop a 1932 Ford frame and grille shell, creating a combination that would have looked right at home on American streets during the 1950s and 1960s. Located in Peoria, Arizona, this professionally constructed hot rod is now being offered as a Barn Finds Auction with a reserve.

The seller states that this roadster traces its roots to central Nebraska, where its various components reportedly passed through multiple owners over the years without ever being completed. That changed around 2008, when a builder named Steve Coram acquired the pieces and partnered with retired craftsman Ken Frasier, who reportedly handled much of the fabrication, bodywork, and paint. According to the seller, Frasier’s attention to detail is evident throughout, with paint and finish quality extending from the visible surfaces all the way underneath the car.

Power comes from a 1948 Mercury Flathead V8, reportedly built by well-known Southern California specialists H&H Flatheads. The seller describes the engine as approximately 286 cubic inches and says it would have been considered “full race” by 1950s standards. The setup includes polished aluminum and chrome accessories, while induction appears period-correct and visually striking beneath the hood. A TKO 5-speed overdrive transmission sends power rearward through a Winters Quick Change rear end and custom driveshaft, offering a blend of vintage style with modern drivability and highway manners.

The photos show a traditional black Highboy stance with steel wheels, tall rear tires, a laid-back chopped windshield, and carefully proportioned body lines. The Black Hartz cloth top complements the aggressive profile, though this roadster looks equally at home with the top removed. From the polished suspension components to the chromed hardware and Buick brake drums, details throughout the chassis appear exceptionally well finished.

Inside, the cabin follows the same traditional hot-rod formula with rolled and pleated leather upholstery, wool carpeting, a banjo steering wheel, and Stewart-Warner winged gauges. The dashboard layout and seating retain a classic look while appearing carefully executed and cohesive with the rest of the build.

The seller reports that the roadster runs as well as it looks, and the addition of the 5-speed overdrive transmission should make this traditional-style hot rod more comfortable for longer drives than many period-correct builds. Showing 5,625 miles, this Ford appears positioned as more than just a showpiece—it looks equally suited for local cruise nights, hot rod gatherings, or extended road trips.

Whether viewed as a tribute to the golden age of hot rodding or simply as an exceptionally detailed traditional build, this 1929 Ford Model A Roadster appears to offer the sort of craftsmanship that rewards close inspection. With an H&H-built Flathead, traditional Highboy styling, and impressive detailing throughout, this one deserves more than a passing glance.

Depends on the preset Reserve. Maybe bought for less than it would be to build one now.

This thing is WAY cool! The brown and black combo really go together nicely too. It would neat to have the camera person get in and take us for a ride.
