Tri-Power 8-Lug 1963 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible

Just ahead of prime cruising season, this 1963 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible tempts enthusiasts with daydreams of relaxing drives, warm weather, wind in their hair, and the burble of a powerful V8 trailing rearward. The Chicago, Illinois classic comes to market here on eBay, where, as we go to press, one $10,000 bid marks the only offer on the way to the Buy It Now price of $42,000. Thanks to reader T. J. for sending this tip.

Dual radios? One is actually Pontiac’s climate control. The original interior probably needs some work. Not showing the driver’s seat when you sell a car is a big red flag, suggesting a seller would hide other flaws as well, but sometimes it’s merely an honest oversight by an inexperienced seller. High style abounds in ’60s Pontiacs, with plenty of wood and chrome trim.

The 389 cid (6.4L) V8 powered most full-sized Pontiacs of the day. With many variations offered and no VIN or engine details listed, we’ll let our Pontiac experts comment on the 389. Many enthusiasts call every GM triple two-barrel setup “Tri-Power,” but Pontiac alone coined the catchy phrase. The center two-barrel handles modest acceleration, rewarding gentle driving with (relatively) economical consumption. Mash the pedal, though, and the front and rear carbs dump all the air and fuel needed to make this Wide-Track Bonny stand at attention. Check out that cool retractable work light!

With a purported new top and “new motor and cylinders,” the convertible system should be ready for years to come.

Timeless styling extends front to rear; full-width trim accentuates the Wide-Track motif. Tail lights and bumper extensions meet at the seam of the subtly creased quarters. While the vehicle’s description better suits the $10k bid than the asking price, the seller successfully passed the “Seller IQ Test” by fitting the entire vehicle in the pictures, an inexplicably daunting task. Well done, Chicago! Pontiac’s signature 8-Lug aluminum wheels add icing to this tasty white cake for classic Pontiac buyers. Can you picture yourself cruising in this driver-quality Bonneville?

Like to see undercarriage pics and close ups of the fender and quarter panel bottoms as well as the trunk with no stuff in it and no mat.No interior pics? What good are full pics of the outside with poor resolution and no details of the common problem areas.42k and not for me especially with these pics.Glwts.

    Interesting cars, ’63 Pontiacs.
Cousin had a red Bonneville convertible with the 8 lugs, aunt had a bronze ’63 Bonneville convertible with 8 lugs and aunt next door had a ’63 Catilina station wagon.
    All in 1963.
I, myself have never experienced or owned a Pontiac. Almost bought a Grandville convertible, but ended up with a Cadillac instead.

A one paragraph description, 13 photos–and only one interior shot–for a $42,000 asking price? It looks nice from the limited info available, but I doubt it will get even close to reserve.

That top looks terrible! And only 1 angle. Maybe he’s selling because the top turned out so bad? In my book, the only thing that could top a 63 Impala would be a 63 Bonneville. Too bad about the top.
