Truck Corral: No Reserve Chevy 3100

You’d be forgiven if you got excited and thought all three of these vintage pickups were up for grabs. It’d be fair to expect that they be released from their slumber in the less-than-glamorous surroundings of an old barn better used as a feed station than a garage. But it’s just the one today – a 1957 Chevy 3100 pickup here on eBay  and listed without a reserve.

What a face! Looking both stern and sad, this pickup is located an hour north of Dallas where it appears to have been home on the range for quite some time. It might have even been home on the drag strip for a time based on some period modifications the seller discovered. The hood isn’t correct and it’s just resting on top, and it looks like you’ll need to find a front bumper as well.

Inside, there are more signs of a hopped-up past. Those seats are certainly from a later model vehicle, and the steering wheel appears to be an aftermarket piece. I believe that’s also a “Mooneyes” gas pedal, but it could just be an ordinary gas pedal. The seller has spotted some other mods, including a five lug conversion, Ford rear end, and the front axle has been drilled to reduce weight.

Since the seller says it “did” have aV8 in it, I’m assuming the engine is long gone. In addition, the floors will need to be replaced and the rear bumper is from a Camaro and crudely affixed. Overall, this truck looks destined for a future as a rat-rod shop truck, but perhaps someone will restore it back to new if they get it cheap enough. How would you use it – keep the Chevy looking low and ratty or shined up to factory specs?

    Isn’t that a 55 grill?

  3. Terry J

Yup. ’55 hood too, but the ad says that. Here’s a ’57. Note the ribs on the hood. Had some of both plus ’58,’59 as well. :=_ terry J

Is this truck supposed to have the side markers in the rear fenders like that? Just doesn’t seem like it. Picture #4

2nds series 1955 through the quad headlight 1958’s and 59’s are the same truck, plus GMCs from those same years. Most of the parts will interchange so it’s not unusual to see hoods and fenders from different years. Odd thing about this one is that the ’55 hood and front fenders have the same “patina” as the rest of the sheet metal so it’s either a ’55 or the changes were made decades ago. :-) terry J
