Two-Car Combo! 1970 Dodge Superbee and Coronet

Fans of Mopar muscle, run-on sentences, and bad spelling look no further! Only fewer words and the ridiculous use of ALL CAPS would score more points on the Why-Bother-o-Meter. All that aside, this two-car package deal could work out well for a skilled enthusiast with tons of free time on their hands and a taste for potent B-Bodies. Specifically the $6500 asking price nets you a 1970 Dodge Super Bee (below) and a 1970 Dodge Coronet (above). Thanks for Rocco B. for introducing this happy couple in Collinwood, Tennessee, where they await a new owner here on tricities craigslist.

If I decipher the stream-of-consciousness posting correctly, the gold Super Bee comes with a clean title and originally featured a 383 cid V8 and a floor-shifted four-speed manual transmission. A 383 also powered the Super Bee, mated to an automatic transmission, and no title accompanies the maroon and primer-colored Coronet. In case it’s not obvious, a Super Bee is the Coronet’s sporty upscale sister and the two share uni-body stampings and many other parts. Other parts include a four-speed transmission, clutch pedal assembly, bell housing, pistol- grip shifter, 8.75 inch rear differential.

The Super Bee floors are pretty ragged out, but the stock-looking offset opening tends to confirm the story that this car began life with a four-speed. No history, VIN, or suggestion of documentation made the listing, but hey, we’re all friends here. What’s to trust? Business is business. Are any engines included? It seems not, or at least it’s certainly unclear.

Either this picture pre-dates the one showing a more-fully assembled Coronet or the fenders and hood were hastily set in place for a picture, which we have seen done before. Still this shot shows parts of the car that might be obscured in a typical barn find listing. After reviewing the listing with its asking price of $6500 OBO (Or Best Offer), what’s your best offer for this tired twosome?

One of the best front bumpers from the muscle car era.

The bodies look pretty good. Deciding on what to pay for these bodies is pretty hard unless you are willing to do all the work to find the engines, interiors, etc.

I may be mistaken, but to me, it looks like there are three cars pictured in the ad. The one that’s stripped, the gold one with the Super Bee graphics on the rear quarters and the one that has a lot of primer below the belt line.

It would nice if the seller included a picture of the parts he mentions in the ad, their presence and condition would factor into any decision.

I speak hillbilly, you get a titled 70 super bee 383 4 speed , with rear axle, no seats and a full set of glass. Included is a no title 70 Coronet shell. Junk yard dog is extra.
Fascinating the Dodge Super Bee, 3 distinct looks in 3 consecutive years. The crome eye brows of the 70, and the complete re tooling for 71. Dodge design studio obviously had money to burn. These B bodies were fun to watch at the drag strip in the day but never appealed to me personally.

That was how I translated the ad as well Lroy. Looks like a good deal if that is what the seller is offering.

Barring the junk yard dog, it appears BOTH cars are Super Bees. If you look at the first photo of the primered car, it has the Bee hood and emblem on the header panel. The second car has the Bee striping on the rear. Hmmm.

Three parts cars all in a row.

    Total value 650 tops.

    Nothing here worth 6500

What I figured, maybe completely mistaken here, is that the car in the first photo is also shown at the bottom with no fenders or hood, same color, white letters visible on the outside of the tires. Look closely, I’m probably wrong.
Either way, two cars or three, that looks like a lot of work there, gonna need a lot of space and friendly neighbors are a plus.

The Super Bee was not an upscale version of the Coronet, that would be the R/T. The Super Bee was the bargain basement hot rod, exactly like the Road Runner was for Plymouth.

Lroy- I always wanted to learn to speak Hillbilly to help me decipher the Craigslist ads, Unfortunately it wasn’t offered at my school.

Where I live, San Francisco Bay Area, to successfully navigate Craigslist you need to read and speak ghetto. I’m not sure which is worse.

I too live the SF Bay Area and the ghetto cars of choice to sell are GM Intermediates, Mercury Cougars and Chevy Caprices. All in their candy colored glory with custom upholstery and oversize wheel/tire combos.

With the current prices of B Body MOPARS, I don’t think that is a bad price. I find it hard to believe that someone has not hacked up the factory 4-speed hump in the Super Bee with the car being 48 years old now.
