Two for One: Two 1974 Dodge Van Projects

Thanks to the good ol’ Internet, you can scratch an itch towards any niche of automotive enthusiasm. If you want to build a wicked van a screaming V8 engine, side pipes, and a shag carpet interior, it seems more accessible than ever to do so. Someone might even offer you two vans for the price of one, as seen by this pair of 1974 Dodge Vans that are here on eBay.

There are two vans in this listing: a bronze, long wheelbase van in decent condition and a red, short wheelbase van in rougher shape, both located in Carpentersville, Illinois with clean titles.

The bronze van was originally purchased as a rolling shell, with the intention of using its parts on the red one. However, it was simply too clean to cut up, with the seller adding: “This lovely machine needs a big block, shag carpet, murals, and Keystone Classics.”

It seems the tables have now turned for the red van, which has a running 440-cubic inch V8 engine under the hood but also has rust, dents, and bondo.

A gentleman named Darren is selling these vans. Though he didn’t really provide adequate details for the pair, he does seem like the kind of fella who would be fun to enjoy a few beers with, and also notes that anyone with questions about the vans should reach out to him. He suggests that the parts from the red van should revive the bronze one, adding: “Make them jealous at the dock or make them hate and love you at the campground. P.S. there is no interior in either, so let your freak flag fly, and do it right, brother.”

The starting bid for these vans is $2,000. Darren also notes that he can help assist with loading up the two vans, and offers the property to store them until they are ready for pick up. Do you think you could make a sweet van from this pair, or would you pass up the opportunity to go vannin’ for cheap?

All these 70’s vans lately are giving me ideas. I’m pretty sure I know what my next project will be. The dodge’s in particular are my favorite. Unfortunately it’s not in the cards right now.

I grew up in vans and loved our ’77 Dodge. I would build one of these if my budget allowed. And with a big block, my father would probably steal it from me as he loved it too but the slant 6 made pulling a camper tough.
