Two tone paint jobs on cars became the rage in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. I first remember the two tone paint when I went with my parents to the Buick dealership in 1978 so they could buy a Regal. Later, Chevrolet offered two tone paint options on the 1980 through 1982 Corvette. This 1980 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am does not have its original paint but was modified at some point to create this striking combination. This car is listed here on eBay by a dealer in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It is listed for $37,900 and their are 4 days remaining before the listing expires.
As can be seen, a prior owner added spoilers behind each wheel to simulate fender flares. The wheels appear to be painted and the listing mistakenly states that the car has a shaker scoop. The 2nd generation Trans Am was in its final years of production and Pontiac introduced the turbocharged V8 engine that was designated LU8. The LU8 was equipped with a Garrett TB305 turbo and a Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor. The only other engine for the Trans Am in 1980 was the naturally aspirated Pontiac 301 cubic inch that was rated at 155 horsepower. The turbo 4.9 liter engine was available only in the 1980-1981 Firebird Trans Am and Formula. It was rated at 210 horsepower in 1980 and 200 horsepower in 1981. There was no 4 speed option in 1980 and that would not return until 1981 when the optional Chevrolet 305 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 speed manual transmission were offered.
The seller presents the original paperwork that is available with this car. The car was originally painted Nightwatch blue which is the darker blue on the upper portion of the car. There are no pictures of the interior but the window sticker shows that it has a cloth interior. All Trans Ams came with a limited slip 3.08:1 rear end. This car has several options including heavy duty battery, tilt wheel, rear window defrost, turbo boost gauges in the hood scoop, T-Tops and air conditioning.
This car was said to be purchased from an Estate and believed to be owned by the prior owner for over 35 years. For $481, the original buyer of this car opted for the the WS6 Special Performance Handling Package. This included 4 wheel disc brakes, bigger sway bars, 15×8 wheels and improved power steering turning ratios. This car left the factory without a factory radio. If this is your cup of tea, maybe you can negotiate a good price for the car because with the modifications, it doesn’t appeal to all Trans Am enthusiasts.
Kinda digging the two tone in a Mako Shark sort of way.
I like the look, kinda, too. Makes me think of a speedboat sitting in water,
Reminds me of a 2 tone Blue tuxedo, one would see back in the day. 🤵♂️
I disagree on the colors. Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should.
Big price tag for a car with no pictures of undercarriage or interior
On this site today , there is a white t/a that looks way better in every aspect …
