V8 Hardtop Project: 1967 Chevrolet Nova

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The popular Chevrolet Chevy II/Nova fell on hard times sales-wise (in a way) in 1964 with the advent of the Chevelle. It was a mid-size car that was available for not much more money over Chevy’s compact. The car was redesigned in 1966-67, but sales did not recover until the third generation came along in 1968. The seller’s 1967 Nova may be desirable because it’s the last year you could get a Chevy II as a 2-door hardtop. Hailing from West Charlton, New York, this rusty non-running Bow-Tie is available here on eBay. A single bid of $5,000 has been cast thus far.

Chevy’s Nova was less boxy in 1966-67 compared to the first run of cars in 1962-65. The edges were sharp and more pronounced, and they looked less like the bigger cars they once emulated. The styling of the ‘66s and ‘67s was virtually identical, and I have difficulty telling the two years apart. Two V8s were optional, a 283 and a 327, and we don’t know which is in the seller’s car, and the lone engine bay photo doesn’t help.

This ’67 Nova may be completely original except for the automatic transmission. A 2-speed Powerglide would have been probable, but the seller says a TH-350 resides in the car now, and the shifter has been moved to the floor, as this was not a Super Sport. The paint seems to be original, though the trunk lid may have been replaced, as it appears to have been a different color. Rust is more than prevalent in the floorboards, trunk, and quarter panels. Patches or replacements are in order.

The V8 is seized, and efforts by the seller to free it up have been unsuccessful. Like the rest of the vehicle, the black bench seat interior is going to need a serious makeover. But everything seems to be there except for some side trim. There is no title as the car was built long before they were required in NY State. But the seller has a clean transferable registration in his/her name.  To help with the stuck motor, the seller has a spare 327 for sale, too.

Don’t think this is worth the money or effort. Rough is a good word to describe what’s left of this car.

Agreement with Bob, nothing too special here and lots of rust. Pretty much a parts car.

Its such a shame. ’66 and ’67 Nova 2 door hardtops are amongst my favorite cars. Beautiful clean lines. The rot near the bottom of the rear window panel is not good, I’m agreeing with Russ, I’m sure the floor and trunk are in need of some attention. I’m thinking that price is on the optimistic side too.

These are my favorite hod rod era cars by far. This one can be restored but like always you will be upside down to do it.

For as long as I can remember the 66-67 2dr hardtop was by far the Nova in highest demand of all 1st generation Novas. They have been thin in the ground for decades, even in California. I’d be surprised if bidding isn’t just getting started, rust and all.ill be interested to see where it ends.

I have never seen rust-through like the panel under the rear window.

I have a soft spot for all the 60’s novas but if the engine is seized and it’s a NY car I’d be possibly interested at more like $1500.
The sub frame is probably rusted through from the salt and the body has more than it’s share of rust.

We all live in a Yellow Submarine ! Sorry had to say it. I think this was under water before any restoration ever gets started.

    Too rough, IMO.

The pictures don’t quite tell us enough, but I don’t think the non-running engine is original either. The thermostatic air cleaner I believe was considered a part of the emission control system which would not have been a thing until ’68. Also, I don’t see the oil filler tube that would have part of any pre-’69 SBC.

…and it’s already been butchered with that ugly, aftermarket, floor shifter poking out of the transmission tunnel.

I’m thinking whoever “wins” this bid will regret it.

The Rust Mites have gotten too deep for us that hunt tin out west at least.

Remember, the application of whatever tire shine will always add to the appeal/value of any vehicle when selling. lol
