In the ’80s Jeeps dotted movies and were plastered as posters in people’s garages. These cars represented the fun-loving hip driver. With off-road capability and a removable soft-top weekend cruises to the beach with friends were a must in these cars. This rare pickup version of the CJ is up for auction here on eBay.
The Jeep was recently refurbished and received new paint, decals, and fender flares. A Besttop full soft top and heavy-duty bumpers, side steps, and fog lights have been installed. The hood is adorned with a large golden eagle decal, and the body has matching striping. A bikini top and half top accompany the car. The Jeep wears 15-inch chrome wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich 33-inch tires. The Jeep is in good condition and is said to have few blemishes or issues. Before the bodywork, there was a bit of rust.
This is the only interior image in the ad but the seller notes that the interior is in great condition. A new carpet has been installed. The seats, dash, and door panels are said to be in good condition. The rear seat is from a YJ Jeep and is not bolted down.
A 304 V8 engine sends power to all four wheels via a manual transmission. The Jeep has power steering and front disc brakes. It is said to start up, idle, and drive great. The seller notes that it was used lightly during their ownership and nothing mechanically has been upgraded in the vehicle. If you are looking to drive a retro vehicle that offers lots of fun this Jeep is for you. Aesthetically the car has been restored but the interior and engine bay have some potential for restoration. This is a great option for someone to drive and enjoy right away or do some light restoration work.
Room to throw some firewood or a deer 🦌 in the back.
It’s really thoughtful of you to offer rides to deer, especially if they have had too much to drink. We have given rides to several deer, and they have always been thankful. One even offered to chip in for gas, which we politely declined.
What a dear deer 🦌! Was he perchance Dr. Killdeer
or the one who ran over Grandma 👵?
Or Howard
Hey, I’m known for more than Jeeps, but doggone it, one more, and a nice one at that. The “CJate” ( CJ 8) was about as far as the CJ went. There was no CJ 9 for some reason, and a CJ 10( and 10a) I believe for military, but the CJ8, was it. Hooray, got the 304, a bit overkill, but ask anyone that has a V8 CJ, they haul axx. Hill? What hill? Just unpredictable, is all. Production for these was low, from 8,000/yr. in 1981, to an embarrassing 128 in 1986, that some claim were leftover ’85s. These were pricey, at almost $9grand, thousands more than a CJ7. With 152 viewers, 9 bids, it’s not the stick holding back sales here, as most want a Jeep with a stick, what could it be?
I’ll tell you what, I saw’r the latest in the ” TV auction fiasco”, this time from the Heartland, KC, Mo., aside from the usual suspects, not much sold for over $10gs, and at the most $20gs. I realize KC isn’t Vegas, but could the tide be turning? Perhaps, but more like people might be finding out, 5 figures is too much for these, a glorified army Jeep.
Looks like an accident waiting to happen 😕. A long gone friend had one of these. When it flipped, he was thrown into the air from it, his body impaled on a steel fence post. He didn’t survive. Interesting how safety standards (regarding bumpers, et al) allow something like this. A cheap Jeep in several aspects. Only the Waggoneer and Commander hold any appeal for me. The current Jeeps are poor 🤮 survivors of what once was Chrysler. Now passing the Stelantis peasants on my way to VERSAILLES! Now even VERSAILLES is Gone With the Wind. 😔 😟. Bye, Bye 👋. BUT not a BUY.
I suppose, to some a bathroom is a death trap, you can’t possibly blame the Jeep for that persons death. Were they driving imprudently? Buckled in? Impaired in any way? The only way someone dies in a Jeep, other than a 600 foot drop or a semi in the back,, is exceeding the limits of the vehicle. I’m sorry about your friend, but we lose almost 50,000 “friends” every year, and Jeeps account for relatively few deaths. When America “civilized” the Jeep from military origins, there was bound to be some issues.
Re: Stellantis, or whoever, I couldn’t care less about the future of what was once such a prominent car and Jeep maker. This Jeep ( and my YJ) are about as removed from Stellantis as it gets, and that’s what is great about this Jeep, it has little, if anything in common with todays renditions. While these newer Jeep look alikes will come and go, but a CJ will always have some appeal. Aside from extreme rock climbing, or a zeitz to the side, I never saw a Jeep flip either.
HOWARD and Ron,FORTUNATELY in America 🇺🇸 we can STILL have our own opinions. Not sure how much longer 😕 🤔. Just expressing mine. 👍 Happy Holidays to ALL Barn Finders from The GREAT AMERICAN LAND YACHT SOCIETY.
Amen, brother,,,
Wow, some harsh words. The CJ-8 was far removed from the roll-over reputation of the early versions. I’d love to have a CJ-8. The short window of time they were built, they’re kinda hard to find. All I ever see are the rotted out wrecks or the cherry museum prices. This seems like a decent price
Never saw a rollover in person but I saw one go through a barbwire fence.
The captain’s driver, in a convoy, went to sleep and took out a portion of the fence. No one was hurt and the driver wasn’t court martialed.
The captain wasn’t too happy.
I don’t think Jeep ever put a 304 in the CJ8 from the factory, so someone has put that engine in there. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I also don’t think the Golden Eagle package ever appeared on a CJ8, although I know they did put it on the other two CJ’s, Cherokee’s, and maybe some other stuff. Pretty cool rig, though. I like the addition of the 304. I could live without the eagle and the gold stripes.
You are correct, there were no factory options for the 304 V8 in any of the
CJ8 Jeeps, they were called the CJ8 Scrambler. This has had an engine transplant.
You are correct Ronald no cj 8 came with a v8 in its run from 1981-1986. It is cool that this is a 304 period correct v8 from a older cj model.
