You rarely see the words “Must Sell” with vintage Porsche 356s anymore, as their desirability has spiked to such a level that owners are either happy to hold onto them for the long-term or have the patience to wait out buyers to get the best price. This 356 is described as having been in this storage unit for 10 years and is listed here on Hemmings with those exact words in the description. The asking price is $69,990 or best offer and is located in Rutland, Vermont.
The seller says the 356 is in beautiful condition despite being off the road for the last ten years. As far as running condition goes, it runs and shifts but not much else is said. From the pictures, it looks like Irish Green may be the paint code, which I’d assume to be original given the interior color scheme. While it’s impossible to tell just how sound the body using the dark pictures of a storage locker as a guide, the 356 does look largely intact and unspoiled in the photos provided. I’m dying to know if the seller is the long-term owner or if this was a recent discovery.
The interior is still in largely presentable shape, with excellent paint on the dash and door panels in nice condition. The seats appear to wear sheepskin-style covers, and one can hope the original seating surfaces underneath remain in great condition. I’m not quite sure what’s going on with the carpet, as there’s a large patch of exposed rubber in the middle of the floor, but my eyes may not be seeing what’s there correctly. The steering wheel, surprisingly, is an aftermarket Personal wheel in place of the original unit, and the Christmas tree air freshener also looks out of place.
It’s not wise to offer an opinion on an engine with so few details, so we’ll just leave it at the seller’s word that it runs well enough. No word if it remains numbers matching, but one can hope. The engine lid includes a vintage badge for a Porsche 356 registry, which usually speaks to long-term enthusiast ownership. Other gallery photos show what looks like an aftermarket exhaust, so I suspect given some of the non-original parts, this 356 has been under the care of a passionate owner before entering its long-term slumber.

May want to contact Wayne Corini on that Porsche. Looks like something he could be interested in.
Owned this exact car as basic transportation in the ’70s. Got it from a friend in Oregon. We were in the Air Force at the time and got assigned to a NATO headquarters in Norway. Took the car and the dog with us. While there the factory advertised they had one more 356 engine for sale plus installation. We didn’t need a new engine but the experience was just too good to pass up. The factory arranged for a hotel near the Competition Department where the customer service work was done. While doing the work the factory took us on a personal tour of the museum cars. Our guide was one one of the mechanics on Porsche’s Formula One and Two entries in the ’50s. Had free access to all the cars including climbing in and out. We wound up with a new engine, European heaters, and a whole lot of pure fun for $1,800. That’s why you see the old geezers putting up big money for these cars.. they were affordable then and things like the personal relationship with the factory made it as much fun as you could have with sports cars. Happy Holidays!
Must sell, but sorry the guy is too lazy to make a decent presentation for a car he’s asking 70K for.
If I were selling the car, I’d take a few days and get it out of the storage unit, wash and wax it, take a lot of photos, make a driving video, then ask 80K. Oh, and I’d find the original steering wheel and get it installed immediately!
Rex if I were selling the car I wouldn’t sell it. I’d drive it.
I’m with Rex. Guy can’t even roll it back 12ft. onto the daylight ? Lazy ? yes but he deliberately left the car in there for some reason. Look at the exhaust, all rust. I think the lack of info. is because it just came into his hands somehow. that’s what it sounds like in Hemmings anyway. 70k ? given that people shell out 100-125k for restored examples ? If this floats your boat rock on. BTW, Cool that you found your old car bobhess. Later………………………JIMMY
Not the exact car but it’s identical twin that’s now in California. Agree on presentation. Buyers need a little more consideration than shown here.
I would definitely go check this one out if I lived in that area. 4 Pictures is just enough to make you wonder what’s if anything is missing .Love the green color it makes it look more euro. The steering looks good but hopefully the owner still has the original . 69k is a good price for this 356 . A little work and you could make at least 20k on this car. I would fix the problems and drive it and turn heads.
