Western State Driver: 1979 Ford Bronco

I never ceased to be amazed how solid cars and trucks out of the West coast and desert states can be, even after years of regular use. The fact that a “vintage” vehicle can be used like any other late model car or truck and not have daylight poking through its panels is a phenomenon that those of us in the snow belt have never experienced. That’s why seeing clean trucks like this 1979 Ford Bronco that hasn’t been living in a bubble and still looks this good always stops me in my tracks. Find it here on eBay with bids to $19,100 and the reserve unmet.

You really can’t beat a squarebody truck when it comes to checking all the proverbial boxes, including styling. This is a seriously good looking rig, and while I doubt it was ever intended to win any beauty contests, it’s one of the more handsome truck designs ever conceived. Those period-correct American Racing wheels look good on practically anything with four wheel drive, and they pair nicely with a set of upsized all-terrain tires. Look at that rust-free sheetmetal – you can tell this is an Arizona truck.

This Bronco also has the added bonus of featuring a minty interior to go along with its well-preserved exterior. The seat upholstery, door panels, carpets, and dash pad are all new, and this proves one of my theories for anyone who owns a domestic car or truck that they’re trying to sell: if the interior is tired, do yourself a favor and overhaul as much of it as you can. There are numerous aftermarket suppliers of kits that, in the grand scheme of things, aren’t that expensive relative to the value such improvements will return when a prospective buyer opens the door and sees (and smells) a brand-new interior.

The Bronco is powered by a 351 that is said to run well and is paired to an automatic transmission. The seller, surprisingly, doesn’t mention any mechanical improvements to go along with the interior overhaul. Hopefully, he hasn’t forgotten to perform some basic fluid flushes and to check the cooling system components before listing it for sale; however, these are generally such robust rigs that I wouldn’t be surprised if there are no significant outstanding mechanical issues to worry about. Certainly, with bids closing in on $20K, bidders aren’t too concerned, either.

I wonder how you get back out of the drivers seat since they did not put the inside door release handle back on.

Look at the front of the arm rest, and you will see the door handle poking out.

Just like the cops tell you when they pull you over with their guns drawn, reach out with your left hand and open the door.

My heart skips a beat every time I see a ’79 Bronco since I sold mine for $6,000 about a year or two before the prices shot up! Like others I have “seller’s remorse”! Especially in it’s condition it would be worth about $60k now and it was in great shape and the air was still working with R12. It’s somewhere in the Boston area now and I hope they are enjoying it as much as I did.

What do we see at the interior roof? A Cowboy hat rack? Beautiful Bronco! I had two 78’s in my life and loved both. One was totaled parked, thanks druggie. Other had body and suspension lift when bought. I brought it back to all stock height and appearance and a new set of American Racing wheels or equivalent. Don’t find what we’re looking at in Rust Belt CT.

What’s happening with the glove box door?

There is a half ton pickup out here that is the same as this bronco. I T&Ed some premium handgun ammo shooting thru the windshield with two different oadings. The truck needs a new indsheild and a radiator to be all thrre.

Glove box door looks fine, they seem to have something hanging on the push button that opens it.
