Wheels Too Much? Revived 1966 Mercury Wagon

Discovered in a garage, this sweet looking classic muscle wagon has been revived and is ready to roll. Packing a 390 V8, and a fair interior, this Merc looks like a great opportunity. Bidding has reached $2,025 for this 93,000 mile Mercury Commuter. Check it out here on eBay out of Darrington, Washington.

Running smooth and whisper quiet, the 390 V8 is a great running engine that is backed by a “perfect” shifting C4 transmission. Although this is not the fanciest wagon of the era, this wagon does have acceptable features such as power steering and power brakes. The brake system recently underwent an overhaul, and I would assume that the engine received a tune up and some general elbow grease.

As a whole, the interior is remarkably complete and original, but the aluminum tape on the front carpet is not the most inspiring to see. The seller admits that the carpet has seen better days. So, throw in a fresh carpet kit or add a big floor mat, and this interior would show well enough. The driver side of the bench has some broken stitches that are superficial, and there is some discoloration on the door pulls. The back seat is close to perfect, and the cargo area is quite reasonable as well. I think a little detailing and trick work could make this original interior quite easy to live with.

The overall weathered appearance with the torque thrust wheels is great. You could easily haul your buddies, family, swap meet finds in this classic wagon. Much of the factory paints remains, but there is a fair amount of  surface rust to be found. Thankfully the rot situation with this wagon is minimal. The floors and rockers are solid, but the “Dog leg” in front of the rear wheel on both sides show two small openings. All of the glass is intact, as is the chrome and trim. You could drive this one as is, or you could spice it up to really set off this sweet classic wagon. What would you do with this muscle wagon?

    Cool ride!

Reminds me of the Matchbox I got as a little kid. Sadly, I don’t have enough space to relive my childhood by way of a real one.

Probably has a C6 transmission instead of the C4 as listed.
