White gold is an alloy that was originally developed to imitate platinum. It is made up of 75% gold and 25% nickel and zinc. The person that ordered this Pontiac Trans Am in 1979 might have had the same idea by ordering a solar gold car with a white interior. The contrast is eye-popping and to some, a little hideous. However, in the 1970s, it was popular to order multi-colored interiors. The tip for this car was sent to us by both T.J. and Pat and we appreciate the uniqueness of this survivor. The Trans Am is listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Denver, Colorado, and is said to have only 44,702 original miles. The seller is asking $42,995.
This 1979 Pontiac Trans Am was ordered with the deluxe vinyl interior. This meant that the buyer received the upgraded seats and door panels. As you can see, the seats and door panels are white along with the headliner and plastic trim around the windows. The interior looks stunning and is said to be in excellent original condition. The car appears to be very well-optioned including T-Tops, power windows, power locks, power antenna, remote power trunk release, cruise control, tilt steering, and air conditioning. The car also has a rare electric block heater from the factory to warm up your car in cold climates.
Pontiac offered the Pontiac 301 cubic inch V8, Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 and Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 engines in 1979 for the Trans Am. This Trans Am is equipped with the base engine for 1979 which was the K code L80 403 cubic inch V8 engine. It was rated at 185 horsepower and only available with an automatic transmission, If a seller opted for the Pontiac 301 cubic inch V8 engine which was only rated at 155 horsepower, they received a $50 credit. If you wanted the most powerful engine, you could get the W72 400 cubic inch V8 engine rated at 220 horsepower.
The exterior looks new and the car is said to have been stored in a garage during its 3 owner life. The Trans Am has the base suspension with the optional 15×7 inch snowflake wheels. If the buyer wanted, they could option the WS6 handling package which came with wider 15×8 snowflake wheels, larger sway bars, and tuned shocks. This is a nice car and the seller is asking full value for it. It would be interesting to see what this car brings in terms of its market value based on the unique choices the original buyer made when ordering the car from Pontiac.
I think any car ordered with white upholstery ended up with a two-toned interior. It’s not a 70s thing, it’s a white upholstery thing.
This is what it’s come to…$43,000 for a’79 T/A with a base 403 Oldsmobile engine/ automatic and no WS-6…
I’ll probably take a lot of heat for saying this, but I’d rather have the 301. At least it’s a Pontiac engine and can easily be swapped for a 400 or 455. I had an ‘80 T/A with the 301 and yes, they’re slow. But an Olds engine doesn’t belong in a Pontiac. I remember when you could barely give one of these away.
Very nice car though. Good luck with the sale!
Uh bro, same bell housing pattern and motor mounts(hence the term B.O.P.) swapping one for the other is as easy as peeing.
Ideal car for cruising a State w nice flat topography…. Florida. Be perfect. Gold, White and A/C . Add a Cobra cb radio and go.
If it isn’t a Pontiac 400/4-speed/WS6 car, then I would not even consider it.
I bought new the 403 car then when I totalled it, purchased the 400/4sp car. Bother were very fast. This car on barnfinds does not have the WS6 package. The wheels are not the 8 inchers. Both my T/As were WS6.
Does WS6 get a 2nd gen t/a a larger front sway bar, or just a larger rear one?
I thought all 2nd gen t/a’s had a massive heavy 1 1/4″ front sway bar.
Oddly, the rear sway bar in the later ’70s got smaller in ta’s & i guess ws6 restored the size to what it was in ’70-74?!
I have never seen this color combination on a Trans Am, but I have to say I really like it!
