Who Needs a Breezeway: 1965 Mercury Park Lane Convertible

In 1965, the full-size Mercury was completely restyled and marketed as “Now in the Lincoln Continental Tradition”. The new styling and marketing tie-in must have helped because full-size Mercury sales increased 65% from 1964 to 1965. Here is a 1965 Mercury Park Lane Convertible for sale here on eBay in Hialeah, Florida.

Of 181,701 full-size Mercurys sold in 1965, only 3,008 were Park Lane convertibles. This car is mostly original and wearing its paint from the factory. Normally I like everything kept stock including wheels, but the nineties Lincoln Town Car wheels make it look pretty good. The car has been barn stored since 1992 and its biggest flaw is rust in the trunk area, but the frame is rust free. It has a new convertible top.

The upholstery is new and has been kept in the original pattern, less ornamentation that would have been on the seat backs. The original chrome trim on the seat edges was not reinstalled either. The seller also says it has new carpet. I’m not sure if it’s the color not matching the seats or the door trim missing that has me wondering. There still appears to be stains on the passenger side carpet. Some surface rust is peaking at the door opening and I hope that’s all it is. The passenger side door armrest is missing and the dash top is cracked.

The engine is the Marauder Super 390 cubic inch that originally produced 300 horsepower. It appears to have a new carburetor and has been dressed up and cleaned nicely. The car is advertised as having 13,627 miles. I’m not convinced of that and tend to think there needs to be a “1” in front of that. The seller will need to show documentation if it’s true.

Who needs a Mercury Breezeway sedan? Drop the top instead to get a full breeze. There can’t be many of these 1965 Mercury Park Lane convertibles left. Is this something that you would like to stand out from the crowd?

    Gorgeous vintage Detroit iron.Clean mid-century lines…love it.
You could restore it…or restomod (I would restomod) and be a star at any cars and coffee.

Restomod is underway — steelies and dog dish — and trying to decide on paint…vs patina….vs vs vs

Nice, original looking Merc….very doubtful that mileage hasn’t gone around once already. Nice restoration project. Good luck with the sale.

What a nice car. Leaving the top up and zipping out the back glass window is nice way to cruise too. ( maybe this top has the plastic window?) I need another car like a I need a headache. Sometimes though I’d like to rotate out what I have and perhaps park something like this instead. Turnpike cruiser !

Good for a big rag – but not 13,000 miles good – be a good deal if the price can stay away from 5 figures

I agree, the lines are absolutely perfect. I would love to see it in a hardtop. And although I don’t hate the later Lincoln wheels, it would be a fine sight in color matched steel wheels with dog dish hubcaps. Lastly, the missing sillplate and ratty carpet do not reflect 13k original nor does the dull chaulky finish.

THAT is exactly what I am doing — steelies with dog dish — and a little lowered….trying to decide if it needs paint….or leave the patina or…..

Just can’t understand why someone would put those seats on top of that ratty carpet.

One of my best friends in high school had a ’68 Mercury Monterey, pretty much the 4 door version of this car. Nice freeway cruiser, went like stink, too, even with the stock 390 in it. Great car.

Great looking Merc. I, too, think the odometer has rolled over. No complaints on condition…just a couple questions: No underside pics? You said the trunk has rust and yet, no pic of trunk…? Please show us your stuff. Bidding at $6,100.00. If there is much more work to be done, the price may not go much higher. I wouldn’t. Not real crazy about convertibles, either. Too hot in summer, especially in Florida…even though I live in Maryland. Hardtop and a/c for me, please. I really hope the next owner enjoys this.

I was the lucky winner of this one — so far — its been a blast! Engine was fully rebuilt, top hydralics worked — though leaked — had to replace — top is new — but needed cleaning and adjusting — and the interior is nicely redone — though carpet is wrong color!!! All in all — I am stoked! Had to have the tranny rebuilt — but had this 75 year old guy who has been in the business for 50 years in Mesa AZ — great guy! Carb is in process as is the rust — and OH — there was no gas tank in the thing and no title — soooo seller was not exactly honest — BUT — I am so glad I found it – and it will soon be restomod’ed and pics posted
