The owner of this derelict Miller-Meteor ambulance on a 1959 Cadillac Series 75 commercial chassis is selling it on eBay in Las Vegas. While the car needs a total restoration, it does come with a lot of new parts. But get out your welding torch.
This Caddy may be a desert car now, but it must have been in the Rust Belt at some point to get so thoroughly eaten by the tin worms. The undercarriage is merely a memory. The interior is shredded, too, and the windshield has a big hole in it. But there’s the fact that it’s “the EXACT model used for the 1984 Ghostbusters ECTO-1, with the correct cutouts above the doors.”
Says the seller, “This car will need a full restoration, [including] floors, engine, transmission, paint, interior. However, included is a NEW-in-the-box windshield. The wheels have been restored, and powder coated with new tires have been installed.” The missing chrome is part of the deal, though it’s unrestored. That’s the good part, but there’s no engine or transmission included in the sale. Now, this is a project. “You may need two transports for the car (being over 20 feet long) and all of the parts that go with it. So be prepared for that.”
Be prepared, that’s the Boy Scout motto, and you’ll need all that clean-living fortitude (plus an open checkbook or serious skills) to get through the restoration of this desperately debilitated vehicle, though full of promise it definitely is. These Miller-Meteor ambulances on the ’59 Caddy are incredible when done.
Barrett-Jackson sold one of these in complete Ghostbusters trim for $297,000 earlier this year, but Classic.com says that sales on the Cadillac commercial chassis are averaging around $62,000.
Maybe it’s inevitable that this once utilitarian vehicle will end up as yet another “movie car.” Personally, I’d prefer it restored to original, but it’s unlikely to attract hordes of gawkers in that guise.

$100,000 BIN ? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha !!!!!
Find another one
Or just do without.
Good for the seller if he can get it, but $100,000 for the starting point of a clone of a car used in a movie, that’s a lot of money to make what is ultimately a fake.

Sure, but if someone really just HAD to have one, then they should buy one of the finished ones for $2 or $300K (which is also frankly crazy, and would never happen outside the halls of an alcohol- and testosterone-fueled B/J auction). That would save them $50K to $150K versus what it would take to revive this iron-oxide wagon on top of paying a $100K initial purchase price.
Maybe I’m wrong. But I challenge anyone who thinks I am to hold their breath awaiting someone to click the BIN on this one!
Recently saw an 85 Cadillac Hearse with lettering on sides….We Put The Fun In Funerals. This poor Caddy looks IT’S ready for its own Funeral. Hope it dies a painless death! Rust In Piece! 💐
Disrespectful to change it to something else. Just crush it and move on. I have never seen the fun in making fun out of a solemn occasion, or says the man who will soon be in the back of one of these.
Realistically, if not a ghostbuster clone, what else? A Halloween prop one weekend a year? Even if this Caddy was in show-car condition would you want it? And with the big bucks needed to restore it, like Curt said, just crush it and move on.
The world doesn’t need yet another ECTO clone.
This honestly doesn’t look that bad. I don’t think it was in the rust belt based on the body. The penetrating rust seems concentrated to the floor boards. Looks more like it sat outside with a hole in windshield/missing windows which allowed water to pool and rust through the floors only.
I’d love to see it driving with the body left as is. It looks the creepy funeral part. Wonder what the actual desired price is. I’ve seen running driving projects of these for $20k, and rough ones for half that. This looks way worse than those. It’s the specific year for the movie car, but I don’t think that adds that much value in its condition.
$100k to buy it another $100k to Get it even remotely looking like a ghost busters replica … NO I think I will just shop for something I can drive today
$100,000 BIN ??? Who you gonna call ?
Someone else
Completely out of line price wise. Why did such a mediocre movie create such a following? Not even good for parts as most have already been scavenged. Just WHERE did the seller come up with this price? That is a $300 scrap hulk, no more. If one wanted to spend $200k on a coach, buy the 38 LaSalle carved panel hearse available on Hemmings that already underwent a $205k pristine restoration.
Produced on a $30M budget, the Ghostbusters movie returned over $280M in it’s first year That “mediocre” movie was the 2nd highest grossing movie in the US and Canada in 1984 and also the highest grossing comedy movie at that time. The Library of Congress also placed that “mediocre” movie in the National Film Registry. I was 52 when that movie came out and it is still hilarious! I would say a $250M ROI was decent! But back to the car/hearse, $100k is a comedy itself!
I was going to comment on this poor unfortunate soul but after reading all the other comments so far, I have no words. Well I have LOTS of words but I’d get banned from Barn Finds
ANGEL, as our Cadillac QUEEN 👸, words are not enough. You make Proclamations and Decrees. Don’t hold back from Proclaiming this Dowager no longer able to KEEP CALM and CARRY ON. I do believe it was my honor to elevate you from DIVA to QUEEN, placing the 👑 on your head, Makes me the Archbishop of CADERBURY. Yeah, I know few can match my unique abilities to shovel 💩. Hope all is well with you. If I can carry on a few more days, I’ll hit 78, and I don’t mean MPH. 😲. As always LOL. 💐
$100,000, a little above my cap
Yard art at best. Didn’t care for the movie or the movie car
mr hand would ask if he was on dope?
THIS stiff needs it’s own hearse!
This would be a remarkable station wagon, brought back to stock.
It will take decades to find all the original parts.
Worth it in the long run.
I am not 20 with money.
