Window Sticker Included: 1975 Porsche 911 S

For years, I’ve told myself I don’t want an air-cooled Porsche. I blamed it on the proportions of the car; I just like a substantiative trunk area. It gives the car more presence. Rest assured, I have driven one or two, and I do love the sound they make – but I wasn’t compelled to want to sell off a few cars in order to buy one. However, that may be changing, as there’s no denying these cars are timeless, which is a quality I’m growing to appreciate as I get older. This 1975 Porsche 911S here on eBay is a gorgeous example, but as current bidding indicates, it’s hard to get a deal on one.

I still think the early 80s 911SC is the one to buy, as you can get in relatively affordably for a project, and don’t necessarily have to beat speculators off with a stick in order to buy one. The earlier cars will likely come back down to earth price-wise at some point, but the bar has been raised to such a degree that the only way you’re finding one for peanuts is if no one else knows about and the seller doesn’t have reliable internet access. Still, the seller of this car claims he had to re-list it due to a deadbeat bidder, which is a shock considering this looks like an ideal example for driving or perfecting.

Now, the seller claims he doesn’t have much info on the car as it belonged to his father-in-law whose health issues have prompted the sale. But it does have a recent repaint and a vague reference to the engine being rebuilt. The interior is gorgeous, and cardinal red is a great combination with the white exterior. The full red carpeting and matching dash likely indicates this wasn’t the case of a color swap, and while no reference is made to it being redone, it almost looks too good to be original. The 911 features factory sport seats, which almost certainly have been re-upholstered.

The repaint thankfully didn’t eliminate the factory stickers from the engine bay, so perhaps it was just a surface-level refresh. The engine bay is clean and the seller claims runs great with 140,000 miles noted in the listing. Although the seller references paperwork and records being available, these are not described in the listing, which would be helpful considering the references to the engine being “redone.” I’m not sure what could have spooked the first bidder, but with bids clearing $26K at the moment and plenty of time left, at least one buyer may get to see lightning strike twice.

Nice car but who the hell puts a Sparkomatic radio in a Porsche 911??
That’s like renting a yugo to attend Pebble Beach! Ugh…lol

Jeff, the word you want here is ‘substantive’, assuming you mean ‘considerable and not ‘the basis or corroboration of evidence.’ :-)

Actually in the Economy of Language Dept. “big” or “large” would do.

Nice car but my dream of owning a 911 is over. Prices are like Hemi cars back in 2006.

Looks like a solid SC. Now if I hadn’t tied that money up in a business…lol. Seats been redone but White?Red is a great combo.

Rx-7… There weren’t a lot of decent radios put into the German cars back in the ’70s. The Porsches were the core of our business and I don’t remember many of them having factory installed radios. Our new ’76 radio lasted long enough to get it off the boat and back to the house.
