Zagato Drop Top: 1987 Maserati Biturbo Spider

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

“A good driver” is not a term we’d associate with a vintage Maserati Biturbo, but the seller claims this Zagato-designed convertible could be a runner without much work. The example seen here is at least a desirable manual transmission car, and it turns over with good compression. It’s way up there in Alaska, so serious buyers only apply. Find it here on craigslist with a $3,500 asking price.

Despite being somewhere Anchorage, the body appears straight up and down the sides. The front air dam is an iconic Biturbo look and it appears undamaged. The OEM Maserati wheels are still accounted for, but the seller says it will need new tires in addition to a replacement top, the latter of which isn’t likely cheap to replace.

One of the best aspects of the car is the interior, which is a surprise given the ornate Maserati cabin tends to break down rapidly if neglected. The leather buckets appear quite fair, as does the wrapped console and original Maserati shift boot. The wood trim looks good on the doors, but it’s harder to tell how the dash pieces are holding up.

Under hood looks nice and stock, with the turbocharged powerplant waiting for its next owner to get it to fire up and stay running. The seller notes mileage is under 50K and the Biturbo will come with an assortment of manuals and workshop books. While these aren’t appreciating much, I still think their time will come as the iconic 80s cars continue to become more collectible. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Jermey for the find.

“Could be a runner without much work” why doesn’t the seller do it and get more money? Oh that’s right it would be cost prohibitive….

Yep, “could be a runner without much work” this week, and then “not much work next week”, and then the next week, and then……ad infinitum….

These were rarely “runners” when new……..and I own 2 Maserati (v8’s) right now. Not difficult to find a low mileage specimen because they were so difficult to keep operating. Most Pick-u-Parts in Southern California had them on stands.

Would buy in a heartbeat if over here. This is so cheap. Maybe for good reason but would still go for it.

This has to be the most useless ad ever, maybe someone in Siberia would want it, put some skis on it and get a team of dogs to pull it, or maybe park it next to a cannabis outlet and some Inuits can pull it home with their snowmobiles!

Besides cost to get running and the unknown there is always the shipping cost to absorb 🤔🤦‍♂️

This looks like a money pit and agree get it running if it’s so easy …Or is it and computer module, electrical or fuel pump etc. nightmare being passed along 🤔

I bought one of these a few years ago for $350, thought I was the smartest guy in the world. Sold it for $900, and the guy was pissed at me when the car arrived. I would never buy another one. They were garbage when they were new. My dad wanted one bad when they came out, he looked at three in the Atlanta area, all three were on flat tires with dead batteries in people’s garages, and this was when they were less than 5 years old. Get one, put a watercooled VW engine in it and enjoy the Italian styling.
