After a successful run from 1968 to 1970, Chrysler’s B-body mid-size automobiles were redesigned in 1971. Dodge Charger sales were up by 26% as a result, but part of that may be because there were no longer any 2-door hardtops in the Coronet lineup. But demand for muscle cars declined, with the R/T down 72%. That means cars like the seller’s ’71 Charger R/T are somewhat rare, but this one is scarcer because it’s a 1 of 1. It wears a 1970 paint color that was not offered the next year and was only available as a special order. Located in Springfield, Oregon, this rough project is available here on eBay, where the current bid is $17,200 with an unmet reserve.

The B-bodies had a “fuselage-shaped” body beginning in 1971. Hideaway headlights were still around, but now as an option. A 440-cubic-inch “Magnum” V8 was standard in the R/T (while the lesser Super Bee came with a 383 as a starter). This example has a 4-speed manual transmission, but the auto looks as though it hasn’t been active for some time. The seller claims it’s a 1-of-1 because the paint color, P6 Frosted Teal Poly, was a special order (code 999 on the cowl tag) and was applied to only one 440/4-speed combination.

We wondered, by the rarity of this car and its location, that it could be a Graveyard Carz protoge. And, lo and behold, that’s correct as this YouTube video will attest. The car is being sold as-is (after being found by Mark Worman, no doubt), and maybe the buyer will hire them to perform a complete restoration, which it needs. The automobile starts and runs, but it’s not roadworthy – yet.

This numbers-matching machine has no rust, thanks to its West Coast domicile. It has the N96 Ramcharger hood, which is complete but not yet operational. Further original parts include the carburetor, radiator, exhaust, and wheels, which were painted at the factory to match the rest of the Dodge. The paint and interior have been baked by the Sun, awaiting new applications. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind and can bankroll its restoration, could this unicorn be it?

Cool car, won’t be cheap. The seller is the guy with the TV show.

Hahahaha. So it’s special because of the paint color. But the paint is almost all gone. So what exactly makes it special?
I pity the guy that bid over $17k on this hunk of junk,
Numbers matching means alot to some.
So does 440, 4spd, Dana 60 with Air Grabber.
