This 1978 Dodge Warlock pickup is located in Lakewood, California and looks immaculate. The truck is just one of 74 Warlock edition pickups that were equipped with the 440 cubic inch V8 engine in 1978. It is being sold at no reserve here on eBay. The truck is currently bid to $22,100 with less than one day in the auction. It is also listed in the Barn Finds Classified section. Many enthusiasts are familiar with the Lil’ Red Express but much less familiar with the other special edition Dodge trucks of the era including the Warlock, Adventurer and Macho Power Wagon. The Warlock was originally based on the D-100 2X4 or W-100 4X4 platform, featuring H70X15 Raised Letter Tires or 10″X15″ tires, respectively. All variants boasted a black interior with gold striping accents on the dash and door panels, complemented by a signature Tuff Wheel. While black was the most common color, the Warlock was also offered in Dark Green Metallic and bright Red during its inaugural year. The exterior was adorned with gold pinstriping, solid oak sideboards featuring gold accents above the bed rails, and discreet chrome-plated running boards, all highlighted by a distinctive gold “Warlock” script on the tailgate.
Options included 5-spoke wheels, bucket seats, tinted glass, a bright rear bumper, and power steering, providing buyers with the opportunity to personalize their Warlock to their liking. This blend of unique aesthetics and versatile features contributed to the Warlock Pickup’s allure and popularity during its production years, making it a standout model in Dodge’s lineup of trucks. Wow, what a beauty to “hex you”. I cannot believe they only got 200hp out of 440ci. It was a sign of the time as the gas crunch was on and California was cracking down on smog bombs. I grew up around stepside half ton pickups, my dad a building contractor so I don’t understand today the mockery and discontent of these little pickups. The giant ugly things Dodge makes today are so stupid for the typical suburban man. Look inside your hot rod mind and tell me this pickup is not better. No Bluetooth, No infotainment center, No bucket seats, No giant disk brakes, no Hemi graphics but its a simply better styled truck. Imagine the guy at the Chrysler plant responsible for the gold striping? Compared to some of the crap being sold at the circus auctions, this one should fetch a pretty penny, but I say.. why sell it? Gold “striping” is tape. Factory pinstriping was done away with decades before this truck was even imagined.
It’s a cool truck- but my 12 year old Ford with a 5.0 has nearly twice the horsepower. Pretty sure the gas mileage is considerably better as well. Not trying to start a war. It’s just that the late ‘70s was a tough time for “performance” engines.

Would absolutely love to own this truck. If only my situation were different. My uncle owned the 79 4X4 version of this. It was every bit as cool but only had a 360 for a powerplant(If you could call it that). Was off roading and got a brakeline caught on a small tree they drove over and tore it off. They ended up having to jump just before it took a plunge over a 400 foot drop off. Just glad no one was hurt. Shame about the truck though being that I’ve only seen one like it since in my life. Gotta say, The two wheel drive is a MUCH nicer truck.

Much better than a little red truck with the silly useless exhaust stacks. Cleaner look. The bitter reality is that you could have went with a standard truck in a clean color and without the offensive name and saved a whole lot of money.
This is a nice truck, reminds me of one that used to be in st. joseph in the late 70’s. We were at a gathering at the old rock quarry on county line road and that truck was there and the guy drove it into a washout that was in this big base pile that was put up for the highway that was coming thru right beside the old quarry. When they pulled him out the right rear side of the bumper dug in and bent it in towards the bed. A few weeks after that I stopped at Bill Turners junkyard/towlot and they had just towed a black warlock in that was destroyed. I looked it over and saw the bend in the bumper and told them how that bend got there, they said they were wondering how that got there as everything else was bent in the opposite direction. Don’t think that guy made it.

It’s interesting to see this story, Warlocks are hard to find for sale anywhere. Coincidentally, I’ve decided to sell my Warlock project and am going to list it locally tomorrow; black 4×4 with a 318. Although alot of Warlocks we’re made, they’re very rare today.
I’m surprised no one talked about the new Dodge Warlocks (2019-2024), which sadly have no relation to the original Warlocks.

I pulled into a gas station a couple weeks ago and there was a stunning example of a Warlock. Even having never seen one in person i knew exactly what it was right away. It was a low mile, I want to say somewhere around 40k , example the fellow had recently purchased from the original owner. It was so stock it stunk and except for a recent repaint was 100% original. The guy said he hand painted all the pin striping himself and it was gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous.
What blew me away were the seats. I could not believe how supple they were. They were buttery soft. I took about a half dozen pictures trying not to nerd out too hard on the guy.
