Dodge had several special editions for the Dart in the 1970s and this 1974 Dodge Dart Hang 10 edition is the nicest one that I have ever seen. It also has a rare engine option which gives it even more of an appeal. This beautiful car can be found here on eBay in Palm Springs, California. There is no reserve, seven days left on the auction, and the current bid price of $14,500! This one will be interesting to watch.
The Hang 10 edition Dodge Dart was one of several special editions offered by Dodge, such as the Spirit of ’76, the Caravan, the Dart Lite, and the Convertriple. Only around 700 of the Hang 10 editions were reportedly made over two years, 1974 and 1975. Even fewer of them had a 360 V8, this car is one of them. Plymouth offered several special editions for their Duster, too. I love the era of special editions.
This car has been restored according to the seller. Or, parts of it have been. It really appears to be in almost like-new condition and they have provided a ton of great photos. They don’t mention rust or bodywork but they say that it has a solid chassis and it had good solid metal prior to being restored. Check out the photos, it looks like an amazing car, even underneath. In 2018, a similar car but with a 318 V8 sold at a Mecum auction for $30,000. This one is a screaming bargain at its current price, but there is still a week left on the auction.
Now THAT’S an interior! I wish car companies had interiors like this today, or at least had the option of choosing a non-black/tan interior. The carpet is original but the seats have been reupholstered and they’re gorgeous both front and rear. The trunk looks great and the big kahunas who typically got lured in by the Dart Hang 10 edition were surfers. The rear seat and trunk panel both fold down and yes, there is room for a surfboard and this one comes with the sale!
The engine almost makes me openly weep it’s so beautiful and clean. The seller says that this is 1 of 47 Hang 10 edition Dodge Darts with a 360 cubic-inch V8 from the factory and the VIN does show that it’s a 360 V8 with a 4-barrel carb. They say that “engine compartment is very correct and original with several of the original factory decals still intact and left that way on purpose proving the pristine original survivor condition this vehicle was in prior to its restoration.” Any thoughts on this beautiful example of the Dart Hang 10?
Very NICE! I know some will decry the lack of A/C, but I’d take this AS IS! GLWTA! :-)
I seem to remember that car and driver did a fastest car show off in the mid seventies and a 360 dart sport was the quickest of them all.
Top speed second only to the L82 Corvette.
A/C: Vintage Air! No problem……
Gorgeous!
If Al Bundy had this Duster he would have been a man with a brighter future and owned the shoe company.
😜
I like it!
Groovey colors and a 360 engine….other thsn no manual trans whats not to love ❤️

like……..
I wish that I were a surfer. I would totally LOVE this vehicle!
I like it. A LOT. Gotta wonder, tho, how come the battery’s disconnected?
Scotty is happy because there are no RED heater hoses on this car!!!
Ha!
Take a closer look at the engine compartment you will find the following:
Electronic Ignition Control Box is not original Equipment, Hose from exhaust manifold to air cleaner for heated air intake should be black pleated paper not silver foil, Oil filler cap should be painted blue like engine not silver in color,Positive battery cable not OEM Part, What are the extra wires from both Positive and negative battery cables? This is not OEM set up, Also, what is the current mileage on this ride? Also the water pump has been replaced as it is miissing engine paint
Those paper tubes dont last long and for many years you couldn’t find replacements so the foil was the only way to go . The ignition box may have been replaced because the yellow sealer they put to keep the electronics dry would sometimes melt off and drip down the inner fender , or more likely the ballast resistor went, and not knowing that its a common issue, bought a new box . Either way, he does say he did some resto work on it , and those things are easily changed ,
I drove a lot of 70’s era Chrysler products (mainly due to affordability on the used market) and anybody that did kept both a spare ballast resistor and ignition box in the glove compartment or trunk. I kept a spare pickup coil as well, but you did have to remove the distributor to change that one (about a 15 minute job).
It’s a real nice car without a doubt. Out in the desert many miles from the beach. The real Surfers I know don’t care much about cars like this but the hang ten thing is a nice gesture.
I see it more out on the open road, going between Las Vegas to Barstow at speed….just keep an eye on the gas gauge. Maybe at night too without AC, it can get hot. Whatever it winds up doing I hope it’s on the road and not stored away.
The Hang 10 and Spirit of ’76 were special trim editions , the Convertriple was more like a car with options – it had the folding rear seat and sliding steel sunroof options, but any other option was up to the buyer . The Dart Lite was a special built economy car with aluminum hood , trunk ,and bumper brackets among other items to save weight , and were generally a low option car . I’ve never heard of a Dart Caravan – maybe it was another trim package ?
I’ve never been a fan of the pointed nose ’73 – ’76 Darts , but this one is a real beauty !
I sold Dodge’s in Toledo Ohio during the 70’s, and even in Toledo we sold a bunch of these Hang 10’s, and even more of the Spirit of 76 models. If my memory serves me these were priced just a little over $3000, wish I would have kept a few aside for my retirement 401k.
Had 74 Convertriple Maroon with White Top and sunroof. Had white stripes down the side also.
Was a 318 but added a new manifold and a 4bbl along with Duel Exhaust. After I “dented it one evening” took it to a local garage. He fixed it. And asked if I wanted Hood Scoops put in as he had a set laying around from a previous duster.
I sure did he even cut holes in the hood to make them “function “. Had fun in those days for sure.
Got a real job away from home and sold it to buy a Ford Fiesta so I could get better gas mileage driving to my “real job”
I believe that in 1975/76 a Dart Sport Hang 10 went for a little more than $4000.00
I just want it, don’t care if it’s not nut and bolt correct. I remember as a kid my aunt had a ’74 gold Dart Sport. Thought she was cool with that car!
My Sister had one. The workmanship was horrible. The one sun vizor had one screw missing one cross-threaded 1/2 way in and one correct. The seams were misaligned. The seat belt lockout and the ignition system was prone to failure. After a few years, her 75 had more rust than my 72 Datsun.
Gee, imagine that! A Dodge/Chrysler product that rusted! I’ve had several friends comment on how their 2010s trucks have more rust than my older (Ford) cars. Yep. Ford has its issues but Idk if I’ve seen a brand rust out more consistently than Dodge/Chrysler. That said, there is much to love about them and if timing were different, I’d be interested in this car. The style and the engine is a great combo!
Wondering if 73 is to old to start surfing?
Harold, absolutely not. Go for it!
Had a 1974 dart sport . I bought it in 1975. Also had a 360- 4 barrel. Yellow with half vinyl roof( black) black factory hood scoops , black factory stripes down the side. Black vinyl interior. I think it did have air. Was a fun car only 16000 on it when I bought it . wonder how many miles on this? Was the car orig from Calif? I would like more info. PLEASE.

Love It! With more space, this would be in my stable.
Must have been a great tire burner with that 360! I drove a 318 Duster for awhile, it would easily live 20-30 ft of rubber, more with a brake torquing!
Had one but a slant 6 sold it for $200.00!
This Hang 10 is stunning in person.
I walked around it last week and took several pics. I never opened the hood.
Surfboard is in back.
As for the electronic ignition box, they should never be by the exhaust.
I always moved the brain to the front side of the radiator support, away from rain incoming from grill.
I never owned an A-body, too small.
I have nothing to do with the car, but it is stunning up close.
I had special ordered a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger in Feb. 1972. It had a 318 V 8 and I also ordered the optional electronic ignition for an extra $35.00 . In 1972 the factory placed the ECU box on the drivers side wheel house just above the shock tower. I drove that car for 150,000 miles before the timing chan broke. The ECU and the dual ballast resistor were never replaced during that time.
I am glad that this one is a ’74, any 1975 Chrysler product was a test for an owner’s tolerance after the no-lead gas era began. I have owned three A-Body Mopars from 1974 and if this one were mine the first thing I would do is have someone fabricate lightweight bumper supports to replace the HEAVY oem units in place. OMG, they are a hernia waiting to happen if you actually felt just how massive each one is…front and rear. I learned that lesson after the body man I hired to prep my last Duster took them off as part of his overly thorough process. Quite a bit of invisible weight savings to be had. 120 pounds of unnecessary bulk gone. Then we can talk about how quick this car really was!
You have to remember that for the 1973 Model Year the government imposed 5.0 MPH Bumper protection for frontal impact and 2.5 MPH for rear end protection. That is why those components are so heavy.
Chrysler didn’t keep records of how many had the 360. Just another blowhard seller.
2,348 1974 Dart Sport 360’s shipped. Not all Hang 10’s. Manual: 1,286. Auto: 1,162.
Hang 10’s had variable engines.
And no way to know the combo with Hang 10.
Hey Joe Blow, I never said a certain amount of Hang 10 with a 360 made. It is know in certain circles on how many of something is made. That is what research finds.
When I created Winged Warriors it was said we will never know how many were made, or how many with what engine.
I eventually received every serial number, then received the dealer code of which contains the address for each.
Anyway, this Hang 10 sells today.
I am now, thanks to Joe Blow, find an answer for just you.
And by the way, Daytonas made is 499, not 503. And, Hemi Daytona’s made, 40, not 70.
My point is the numbers you give shown nothing about the claim. And since you know Mopars, you will know that current info won’t show a combination of 360 and Hang 10.
SOLD for $26,000.
Someone got possibly the best Hang 10 out there.
It is stunning in person. I am not being paid to say this. No other words. Just Stunning in person.
I bought new in 1974 a Dodge Dart Sport 360 in Ohio for around $4000. White w/black strips, auto, 355 rear end. Had HP in the vin # and cost me more money for insurance than the car payment. Insurance around $300 monthly back then. It had a thermoquad 4 barrel carb. A buddy had 70 chevelle w/ 3/4 cam and couldn’t shake me. The speedometer had 50 straight up and only went to 100 but no peg and had it pointing straight down. Running away from a buddy’s 72 Camaro that registered 135 MPH. Insurance told me the HP was high performance. Wish I still had it.
