1 of 500: 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300

Was the 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300 a performance car or a luxury car. This survivor is listed for sale here on Craigslist for an asking price of $29,700. It is located in Sacramento, California and has been listed for 9 days. The seller states that it is a California car that has not been messed with over the years and is presented as fairly original. However, the years have taken its toll on the paint.

In addition to the 500 coupes produced (some sources state 485 units), one convertible was also built for Hurst promotional purposes. The Chrysler 300 model was developed as a luxury car and this special Hurst edition was produced as the performance variant. Under the hood is a 440 cubic inch V8 engine backed by an automatic transmission. The Hurst 300 was special because it had a scooped hood made from fiberglass. The trunk on the Hurst 300 was also fiberglass.

All 1970 Chrysler Hurst 300 cars were 2 door models painted in Spinnaker White with gold paint schemes. They are similar to Hurst’s Oldsmobile and Grand Prix color options. The interior was a luxurious satin tan leather straight out of the Chrysler Imperial. The cars could be ordered with a column or console shifted automatic transmission. I have not seen one with a console shifted transmission but I am told they did not come with a Hurst dual gate shifter. The suggested retail price of the Chrysler Hurst 300 was $5,939 which is over $40,000 in today’s dollars.

Aside from the Chrysler Imperial, this was the most expensive car that Chrysler offered in 1970. The engine was rated at 375 horsepower and 480 lb ft of torque. Magazine tests at the time indicated that 0 to 60 was around 7 seconds and a quarter mile time in the high 15 second range. Production of the Hurst 300 started late in the year so production was limited. So who appreciates this upscale muscle car?

I’m checking out that faux wood station wagon in the background. Chrysler trying their best at a throwback to yesteryear. Did anyone at first sight think this was a real woodie?

There was one of these Hurst Olds in a junkyard in Colorado about six years ago. I took pictures of it. It was all complete and original.

This is a bit of a dream car for me but I believe it to be worth about half the asking price.

Ultra rare, unrestored 440, 375hp TNT.
Priced just above a std 300.
Less than 1/2 the price of a similarly powered Charger R/T or GTX and a LOT more rare.
    Mopar guys get it.

These are very cool cars, the price on this one is a little strong but if you want one, you’re probably going to have to step up

I’ve seen several of these and they are nice cars. The ask on this one is way high imho, it needs interior work, paint and who knows what else. $15,000.00 seems more like the price it should be, again imho. I was at Proteam years ago and (if memory serves) they had two project Hurst Olds, a white and a black Hurst Grand Prix’s project cars. I never knew Pontiac had Hurst cars.

Really? I believe limited edition cars cars started with Olds 442s in 1966 and spread to Chrysler a couple years later with Hemi Darts and Barracudas and 390 cross rammed AMXs. My memory is slowly fading so if I’ve left something out free to correct me.

In the early ’70’s there was a neighbor across the street who
had a small used car lot.One day he pulled up in one of these,in
perfect shape.I thought it was a really cool car.
It probably didn’t sell for much money back then.

I could swear i saw a few of these a couple years ago in nice condition for under 7g. Seems like recently every old turd under the sun is all of the sudden a 30k car. Keep thinking when will the bubble burst but i guess im dreaming because people keep paying the moon, i give.

This was a rare car. I am not necessarily a Mopar guy, but I would love one of these. They were beautiful cars. I love the full size/big block Fords,Chevies, Plymouth, Dodges, and Chrysler 300’s. Way under appreciated.

Always loved this car. Seen a few when they first came out! And coming from California it should be pretty solid

Two brothers in my area have one of them. One with standard seats and the other had the ultra ”plush” seats but not with leather.
I am no Mopar ultra fan but theses big cars are impessive.
