10k Original Miles: 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra

When it comes to saying more with less, sometimes the pictures do all the talking. In the case of this 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra, with just 10,000 original miles, the pictures tell you almost everything you need to know. Fox body Cobras are among the rising stars of early 90s collector cars, helped by the fact that the platform itself is wildly popular among enthusiasts. Options and colors were fairly uniform across the board, so when seeking out a desirable Cobra of this era, it really comes down to mileage and condition. Find it here on craigslist in Charlotte for $49,900.

We’ve seen no shortage lately of collector-grade Cobras coming up for sale, all of them seemingly with under 30,000 miles and hovering in the same price range. I have to believe there’s a feeling among owners that squirreled these cars away when they were new that now’s the time to unload them, as every few weeks another garage queen example pops up for sale. This one looks even better than some of those Cobras we’ve previously featured, with a spotless engine bay, blemish-free paint, and suspension components that look like they’ve never seen road grime. Obviously, no modifications to report here.

My eyes could be deceiving me, but this Cobra appears to have a cloth interior. Another listing for a Cobra I found with a similar upholstery option claims just 368 cars came with cloth, and I’d believe it. I don’t believe any of the other Cobras we featured lately came with cloth, so it certainly sets this one apart. If it had a sunroof delete, it’d be rarer still. This brings up a good point, that if you want to find a desirable Cobra, don’t look at the options it has – look at the options it doesn’t have. The interior is in outstanding condition, and though the factory steering wheel is wildly unsporting for a car with these performance credentials, it’s yet another good sign this one was never modified.

The door panels also appear to be in excellent condition, which isn’t always a given even on low mileage cars as those map storage pockets are prone to failure even under the best of circumstances. The gray cloth and black exterior is a sharp combination, and that top photo reveals that the polished Cobra wheels are in outstanding condition and only serve to make this Cobra sexier than it already is. The asking price is high, but at the same time, this does look like one of the better examples we’ve seen lately. Would you jump at this one with the rare cloth interior or wait for a different example altogether?

I’m not a die hard Ford fan but Ford really hit it right with the Fox body and it’s variations like this car. Long time friend bought a ’93 red Cobra for his birthday last year and says it’s a ball. Nice car.

    Another very nice Cobra.

Of course anyone can sell a car for any reason at any time. But I wonder if the owners of these low-mileage Cobras, now that they have reached high-dollar status, might be selling in order to “upgrade” to a newer Mustang, like a Shelby or the new Mach 1. The $50k would go a long ways towards one of these, or would buy a loaded new GT.

Personally, I think it might be a great time to sell any V8 muscle car unless you’re really attached to it. I just have a feeling about this.

Spot on Supe- The market for V8 Muscle Cars consists of dinosaurs and the giant meteor is heading straight for them. 10 years from now there will be no one left interested in these cars.

LOL, I don’t think it will be a giant meteor! But I do think gasoline will be a lot more expensive and less available, and that there will be fewer Baby Boomers to keep prices increasing, or even stable. They will always be desirable, just not like now. As my grampy was fond of saying, no time like the present if you’re in this for an investment.

My earlier funny comments were removed so I will just say that I respectfully disagree with the “dinosaurs and meteor” comment. The old Shelbys are selling for more money now, 50+ years later than ever before.

    Thank you.

Agree, but who do you think are buying/bought the “Old Shelbys”? Keep your eyes peeled for meteors.

The sunroof was an option, so there is no such thing as a sunroof delete Cobra.

The 87-93 fast back GT’s are on my wish list. However the few nice/low mileage ones left are way expensive. A Cobra would be nice but the prices they are commanding are unfathomable… As recently as ten years ago there was not a lot of interest in the fox-platform GT’s. Wonder why they have become so sought after?

Jimmy H., my view: Fox Body Mustangs have always been fairly popular. Now, those who really wanted one as a teenager are now at their point in life where they can swing getting one. The Fox Bodies have more-or-less carried a “rode hard put away wet” reputation, plus they were easily modified. Thus I think you answered your own question— there are few nice/low mileage examples left.

And so, that low-mileage GT in nice condition which was $10K a decade ago is now $20K, and proportionally that nice Cobra which was $25K a decade ago is now $50K.

I liked it better when the foxy boxy Mustangs were cheap thrills and the aftermarket exploded on them. When these 5.0’s were all about fun and not about dollars. The Cobra isn’t just another 5.0 Mustang, it’s a limited edition model….awe heck, just run it hard as intended.

How on earth can anyone let that sit for all these years with only 10.000 miles. He or she must have something better out of sight of his camera lens.
