$11,000 Coyote Nemesis: 1970 Plymouth Road Runner

092816-barn-finds-1970-plymouth-roadrunner-1

Thanks to Barn Finds reader, Greg F, for sending in this tip! This is a 1970 Plymouth Roadrunner and it can be found here on craigslist. This straight-looking car is located in Waterville, Minnesota, about 70 miles south of Minneapolis. The seller is asking $11,000 and that price is firm! This would be an “easy restore”, according to the seller. From looking at this photo I don’t doubt that one bit. 1970 was the last year of the first-generation Roadrunner, and in my opinion these are the cars to have.

This looks like an incredible bargain from the opening photo, showing a super straight and solid car with not even a ding or missing grille piece! But, unfortunately, this is the only photo in the ad. You’ll have to get in touch with the seller to get more photos, but it sounds great. It was “basically a barn find” and is originally a Colorado car, hopefully never driven in a blizzard, but you can see the frost plug sticking out of the grille. It has factory hood pins, a console, rally dash, buckets. It looks like it may be a “Walnut” color which would be a little more sedate than Moulin Rouge, Lemon Twist, or Lime Light, but I’m not afraid of brown cars like some folks are. About $1,000 in additional parts come with the car, which is always nice. This car has a 383 V8 with a 4-barrel carb and around 335 hp. Yes, even with a “small” (relatively) 383 you can do an impressive burnout if a person had a mind to do such a thing. HA, as if any of you would ever do that.. (crickets). What do you think of this one? I like it, $11,000 seems like a good price especially if you’re going to do the bulk of the work yourself. This could be a very, very nice car for maybe double this price depending on what the drivetrain and interior are like. Can you tell from this lone photo if this is a good deal or not? If you don’t buy it Mike Brewer will buy it and have Edd China do the work and they’ll make a crackin’ profit!

Lets see , what’s wrong with this picture? Oh that’s it there’s just one picture. God help me understand why someone trying to sell a car only post one pic is beyond my comprehension. Maybe someone out there can tell me???

Not to be a prude…but this is a car site. Respectfully, could you leave the social or politcal commentary off of this site. Sincerest thanks!!!!!

Regarding one picture, I guessing that when some Sellers know that certain makes (such as most anything MOPAR right now) are desirable and bringing big bucks, they can be lazy and see no need to accommodate propspective Buyers.

Often when the seller knows any serious buyer is only going to inspect the car in person it’s not worth the effort. Most Craigslist sellers are only expecting a local buyer.

Conversely, if I sell something of low value, or my asking price is extremely reasonable I’ll chince out on the ad.

As there’s a Facebook page dedicated to CL mopars and the members comb through CL and post the ads I am guessing that he gets as many if not more inquiries from non local folks. Us mopar folks are nuts about these things.

Defiantly needs more pictures regardless of worth. He’s going to ruin that piano by leaving it out there.

Or maybe his wife is nagging him to sell. So he put only one picture up in hope it doesn’t sell and he can restore it this winter. Sounds logical to me.

basically a barn find? garage find? ” new” parts… meaning??? Possibly bought ” new” decades ago, and not touched? .. I agree with the other posters, the seller is hoping someone will hop right on it because it is a RR … most likely the rest of it isn’t in all that good of shape

I would inspect the following for rust; the whole damn car…… Seriously, torsion mounts, rear frame rails, all around the rear window, trunk pan as well as floor pans. The older mopars were prone to excessive rust in those areas and as I’ve owned 8 ’63-’72 mopars I am way too familiar with it.

    I love the verbiage.

Price is firm. If it doesn’t sell, I’ll restore it myself this winter. It’s an easy restore.

On the other hand, I agree with Bobsmyuncle. I recently sold a 1949 GMC pickup truck that was nice, and sold it to a guy within a hundred mile radius of my home through Craigslist. I actually blew off some prospective buyers due to their distance and my thinking they were either scammers or tire kickers. Bottom line, I sold it.

Hey, thanks for the update, Jack! The seller added two additional photos and photo-wise, more is always better.
