12K Miles! 1989 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

Coming in almost three-feet shorter than the longest Eldorados, this 1989 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz still has a big presence if not a big size. I recently looked at a similar car but without the fancy Biarritz package and it was a really nice car. The seller has it listed here on craigslist in South San Francisco, California. They’re asking $8,000 or best offer. Thanks to Pat L. for sending in this tip!

This Eldorado almost looks like it has been hit with a ton of aftermarket parts, but the Biarritz package took it over the top, bling-wise. We’ve all see Cadillacs and Lincolns and other luxury cars with the faux convertible top and gold trim and things like that, Cadillac offered that from the factory. I wonder if they still do? Although, the Eldorado went away after 2002 so you’d have to get it on another model. Hagerty is at $7,600 for a #2 excellent condition car.

This is an eleventh-generation Eldorado and they were really downsized for the 1986 model year. General Motors offered the E-body Eldorado until 1991 and for the final generation, they were almost a foot longer but still had the same wheelbase. This is a nice car but if you can find a 1978 Eldorado Biarritz for this money, buy it instantly.

This car appears to be in amazing condition and there’s a good reason for that, it has just 12,522 miles on it! And no, it isn’t 112,522 but I guess theoretically it could be 1,012,522 miles… Check out those seats! They’re beautiful and flat with no bolstering at all because this isn’t a sports car, silly. The back seat is equally gorgeous.

The engine is Cadillac’s 4.5L V8 with 155 horsepower and 240 ft-lb of torque. This Eldorado, even though much smaller than Eldorados of yore, is still 3,400 pounds and 16-feet long so more power would be nice, but I’m sure it works perfectly. It sure is a beautiful car if a person can live with the bling. Have any of you owned an Eldorado of this vintage?

This white Caddy would be invisible in Palm Springs. Pace car for the geriatric 500 down there.

I worked at a Cadillac dealer’s parts department when these came out. There was a vendor the sold us gold plated emblems and badges. The body shop removed the originals and replaced them with the gold ones. A very expensive dealer option that sold surprisingly well. Same with the Vogue gold striped tires.
I was amazed at how popular the emblems and tires were, especially considering how much they cost.

It may not have a ton of aftermarket accessories, but it has at least one: that gaudy grille cap.

I find these cars perfectly suitable for a personal luxury/daily driver. It takes a complete jerk to find fault with them. They are only cars, after all. Lighten up on them.

People try to stroke their egos with criticisms they think will put them onside with the “in” group.

Lots of bad press about the head gaskets on the 4.5 engine. I had an 88 Coupe DeVille with that engine and GM sold a copper head gasket sealer for the radiator….we put almost 200k miles on the car without any engine issues. I would love to buy this one.

My 86 needed rod bearings at 40,000 miles. The air conditioner would quit working suddenly, and then start up again. Dealer could not fix it. Their diagnosis: the computers would quit communicating, and no one knew why.

Then I must be a complete jerk, because IMHO, these are part of the ugliest and classless cars Cadillac ever made and I’m surprised they sold at all. This car is right up there with the Cadillac Cimmeron.
I owned a 1992 final generation Eldorado and hated it, even though it was a little bigger than this scrapyard hunk of metal.
Give me a REAL Cadillac Eldorado any day. My 1975 Eldorado convertible, now THAT is a Cadillac.
