15k-Mile 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Callaway Twin Turbo

While Callaway Cars creates performance parts for all types of vehicles, they specialize in Chevrolet models – especially the Corvette. From 1987 to 1991, one could walk into a Chevrolet dealership and purchase a C4 Corvette with the Regular Production Option (RPO) known as B2K, which would send the vehicle to Callaway for a twin-turbo conversion and some other upgrades. With that being said, this 1987 Chevrolet Corvette Callaway Twin Turbo that Barn Finds reader Pat L. found here on Craigslist is a clean specimen of this unique and modified ‘Vette.

This Callaway Corvette is available in Montclair, New Jersey with a clean title. This one has a plaque notifying that it is number #104 of 184 cars that received the conversion in 1987, and there’s plenty of documentation included with the sale, including the window sticker and maintenance receipts spanning the car’s entire lifetime.

These special edition Corvettes feature hood vents for the twin turbos, and this one features timeless BBS RS wheels too. The exterior is in immaculate shape, with a damage-free body and soft top.

The interior is similarly clean, and it also includes a handful of neat creature comforts, especially for a high-performance car from the 1980s. These include a Sony stereo system with a 10 disc CD changer, a built-in Escort radar detector, power steering, and air conditioning.

According to the seller, Callaway’s conversion added $20,000 to the MSRP of the sports car, and it also included approximately 2000 proprietary upgraded and CNC machined metal parts compared to a regular Corvette. The twin-turbocharged V8 engine pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission and the combination has 15,707 miles. After leaving Callaway’s facility, this ‘Vette produced 365 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque, resulting in a 5-second 0-60mph run, a 13 second 1/4 mile time, and a top speed of 170 mph.

For $47,500, you could add this unique convertible to your collection, though the seller is entertaining trades for a handful of other collectible cars, which include a DeLorean, DeTomaso, Ferrari 308, Jaguar XKE, Mercedes 280SL, and a pre-1971 Mercedes SL. What do you think of this factory option turbo Corvette?

Seems weird that it would only have a 4 speed, but apparently it does. Thing must plant you when those turbos spool up.

It’s not really a 4spd, there is an overdrive for 2nd, 3rd and 4th. That’s was the only manual transmission available those year Corvettes, it was marketed as 4 + 3.

Doug Nash built 4+3 = 7 speed. Overdrive unit runs in 5,6& 7 speeds.

That price will get you a 1995 ZR-1 with 405 bhp and an all-around better car to drive.

      Absolutely true Frank.

But you don’t get twin turbos…

A very nice ZR1 would cost less than half of this. Considerably less than half. This guy is asking 47,500 for this thing! That is insane for a C4.

It’s called a 4+3 transmission if I remember correctly it’s a Doug Nash . I had 2 1988 convertible corvettes with that transmission it has overdrives in the top 3 gears with switch on top of shifter

With boost controller and upgrade these turbos could make over 1000HP done right.
An extremely collectible car with low miles!

I had a 08 Z06 with the LS7 and I was looking at a twin turbo setup for that from Lingenfelter that upgrade cost 80k and gave you over 1100 HP with a top speed of 226 MPH. For the tiny HP gain this setup made I would never have wasted my time! The next side of the coin it does very little in the real world to increased resale value!

Bob Grey here sez he helped Calloway develop that turbo (late 70s? early 80s?).

If I had the Pantera I would not trade it for the vette (I guess that’s what he means).

The seller must be the reincarnation of P.T. Barnum. “There’s a sucker born every minute.”
