Quite literally “Grandma’s car,” this 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 has been driven only 17,570 miles! It’s located in Cincinnati, Ohio and is listed for sale here on eBay, where bidding is still under $4,000 with just over a day to go. Since the auction doesn’t have a reserve, one thing we can be sure of is that this survivor will have a new owner shortly.
I guess Grandma liked later model Lincoln aluminum wheels because that’s what’s on the car now. Other than that, it appears to be pleasingly original. Assuming you can find some steel wheels easily, you could return to a set of original hubcaps like this set without a problem. The seller also tells us that the tires are quite old, so plan on replacing those with a new set of whitewalls while you are at it.
This generation Ford had the very distinctive vertical pairs of headlights similar to Pontiacs. Even though this isn’t the highest performance model I find the look quite aggressive. One of the items to keep in mind about this particular car is that the chrome is peeling in places; those are large bumpers to be re-chromed if you want to go that route. Other than touch up work, we are told this is the original Wimbledon White paint.
It’s a shame about the cracks in the dash and I know many of you will rule this car out simply because of the four rather than two doors. Feel free to argue about it again in the comments section; suffice it to say I’m fine with four, especially at this price level. Y’all two-door-only folks just don’t know what you are missing out on!
No, it’s not a 427 or even a 390 under here, but the original 289 cubic inch V8. I’m fine with that too; you’re not trying to win races with this combination and you might even save a little gas along the way like Grandma undoubtedly did. What do you think of her car?
I dought that old grandma had the Lincoln wheels and wight letter rear tires put on it ,maybe grandson did that.🚗🇺🇸
Did the 289 V-8’s have the air injection emission system like the 390’s did
in ’67?
I have an all original 72 Lincoln continental, mint, with 62,000 miles, I love 4 door 60’s and 70’s cars, and I agree with you totally, someone is going to get a really nice solid low mile large ford, again Beautiful, I love it :)
Love this year Ford but pictures taken at dusk?
This has been repainted. Over spray on door latches, scuff plates, and fender bolts painted…dead give away.
At that price, so far $4050, perhaps worth the risk but what was it hiding? A 17K mile white acrylic enamel car rarely should need a full repaint.
A boat with out AC or P B’s and under powered. Worth the money just to drive it.
Great family cruiser and it looks pretty clean too!! The 289 will be economic to run and be enough horses to get this car around town!! I like the red interior!!
The condition of the driver door panel and armrest seem to conflict with the ’17k’ mileage claim. Funny thing is though, is that the rest of the interior looks really nice. But then there’s the evidence of a reaping. No, I’m gonna have to say that the actual mileage is well north of 17k.
…I’m going to guess..probably 117,000 miles..it’s easy to claim “original miles” on these old odometers that roll over at 99,000…
Four doors definitely have their place, very user friendly especially for hauling people around, that sort of thing. Styling wise most will agree the two door models just look better, right? Often times practically wins out over styling.
Sort of like the blokes I know in construction who buy short bed trucks and never have enough room to haul plywood or longer ladders and levels..without hanging it over the tailgate, haha. Neat Ford by the way.
Love the 4 door no post cars!
As far as available v8s go, it was quite a jump from 289 to 390 this year. The 352 was a good in between in prior years.
Another 50+ year old car that was driven 6-7 miles per week. There is not a chance that this car hasn’t rolled the odometer at least one time. Brake pedal wear, armrest wear, wheel swap, trunk condition … he list goes on. I would think that anybody with a true interest in these cars would have a reasonable clue as to what 17,570 miles looks like versus 117,570 or more. Who repaints a car with only 17,570 miles on it?!?
Just tell the truth.
Definitely seen more than a little fresh paint. I’d certainly want to verify that the car is solid and not hiding anything under the finish. Otherwise, a great candidate for a cheap daily driver as it appears it won’t set any auction records. The 4-door hardtops are good-looking cars, especially with all the windows down. I’d find a set of steel wheels with full wheel covers and new thin line white wall tires, it doesn’t seem to need anything else. I’m not sure of the ultra-low mileage claim, some documentation would be needed to support that low number. However, I don’t think it’s been around the clock, the car looks too good for really high miles. A great car that looks like it won’t break the bank, an attractive car if you’re not a 2-door snob.
Is it just me or is anyone else beginning to believe that “helping settle an estate” is another way to say being sold by a flipper?
It can go either way to be truthful. A good friend of mine had a neighbor, also a close friend of his, die within the last year that was a bona fide car nut. The neighbor’s brother inherited everything. The brother kept a couple of the extremely desirable ones but an exceptionally clean mid 80s C10 shortbed and a Nissan Z. The brother lives back east so he asked my friend if he could handle the sale of the 2. Of course he is paying my friend a fee. My friend in turn asked me if I would help (of course a fee was offered to me for my assistance) because he know that I am an avid Barnfinds reader and I know how to put together a proper ad based of my knowledge gained here. Of course a fee will be paid to both of us because the brother has no desire to take a ‘hands on’ part of things. So it will truthfully helping settle an estate. However I’m sure you’re correct that many people probably do use that as a back story for something they bought purely with the intent to sell. There’s nothing wrong with that but they should be honest about it. It’s far easier to respect and trust someone who is honest about it. In fact when the time comes I’ve convinced him to list the 2 vehicles here on Barnfinds.
This would be cool to turn into a retro Fire Chief car.
The pictures on ebay are terrible, but if you zoom in and look, I m sure this is a car with 117,000 miles. That’s okay as long as the price stays low and the bidder doesn’t think that he/she is buying an actual low mileage car.
Learned to drive in 1966 on Dad’s brand new 66 Galaxie 500 4door hardtop. Loved that era car and could that 390 V/8 smoke the tires!
The linked wheel covers are for a 66 7 Litre Galaxie. Leno should buy these for his car
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. Make some type of arrangements to get
it up on a lift BEFORE you buy it! Ford’s of this era may look nice, but many were
done in when their frames quite literally
rusted in two. The seller’s claim of 17K
original miles needs to go out the window. Along with the driver’s side door
card, the engine looks as though it was
painted with a rattle can. And snapping
pics of the car at sunset? This guy’s either a fool or he’s hiding something.
Do I want it? Sure I do! Would I buy it
based on these photos? Hell no! He’d
have to let me look it over really well
IN BROAD DAYLIGHT before I’d hand him
my hard earned money. Oh, does anyone
notice the headlights? They should be shining much brighter than they are in
the pics he gives us to look at here. Looks like the electrical system could
be tired too. I like the car, but there are
just too many uncertainties here. As
much as I hate to, I’ll pass.
Ours was a 4 door post sedan, same interior, exterior color, with air. I remember playing with the tooled areas at the top of the seats. I would have been 6 when this car appeared in our driveway.
17,000 miles? No way. Is it cool? Sure. But a whole lot of lipstick has been put on this Ford. The quarters behind the rear wheels look unapologetically bondo’d to me. A repaint, and all that cover up on Grandma’s always garaged meticulously maintained 17,000 mile car. That’s a stretch.
Listing has ended.
WTH, original tires but no spare tire or jack? Also, bring a magnet to check those rockers and quarter panels. Looks like a repaint which would explain the pin striping. I like the Lincoln alloy wheels, I seem to recall the family sedan back in the day had a bad habit of throwing the original one-year-only turbine wheelcovers.
4 door hardtop. These were rare even when new.
Nice car but I would want verification of mileage claim.
My grandmother had almost the exact same car. Hard top, same color, 289 but with AC and a white interior. Hers had only around 35-40,000 miles around 1992 when it was sold. Original paint still looked real good at that time and the interior was like factory new, but the frame had been repaired twice to pass PA inspection and needed work again. We used to call it the bakery car, always smelled like the bakery inside. Good memories.
Wow, used it until 1992 eh? And frame repaired twice? She must have loved that car. I remember ours was traded rather unceremoniously for a Buick Skylark after a couple years. Smaller car. But by then we weren’t doing family trips any more. I think our white 67 Galaxie may have been the last sedan my Dad ever shopped for or bought.
I’m not the best counter here but I can count to four. Like 4 door. Two too many.
Quarter panels were rusted out at one time and patched. The lower portion behind the fear wheels is not shaped correctly.
