1938-Cadillac-V16

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Back in the thirties, Cadillac built some of the finest luxury automobiles in the world and the V16 was their flagship model. This particular 1938 touring sedan has been in storage for more than 40 years, so it is going to need a thorough restoration, but it appears to be very complete and original. Unrestored pre-war luxury cars like this one do not come to market often, so it is worth a look. Find it here on eBay out of Cleveland, Ohio. Bidding is currently at $22k with a BIN of $32.9k.

Good project for a dedicated enthusiast. I helped a friend restore a ’41 Model 75 Limo and it was a challenge to say the least. The end product was worth it though, and after almost 30 years, it still has it’s appeal. But his was a V-8. I’ve always been interested in a 16 but there’s no doubt that this beast (when finished) will pass everything on the road but the gas station.

Geo…….sure right about gas mileage on V-16’s. We had one in our old car club for years and best it ever got was 6 MPG. But they are not that powerful either, won’t pass just anything on the road. The engine bore was very small. What counted back then was the NUMBER of cylinders and not cubic inches!

coming in at around 200 horses, which was quite a bit more than anything else, back then.

Had a friend with a 1930 Marmon Coupe V 16. He would step on the floor start and I swear you could hear the angels in Heaven singing.

There’s a few things I haven’t done that I would like to do, and one of them is drive a car with a V16 engine.

With all those power pulses coming one after the other I’m guessing it would be smooooooth.

I remember seeing this car before – with the distinctive Packard next to it. If I recall, experts claimed the V16 had been modified (read: simplified) and to get it back into original condition would take lots of time and mega-$$…
