1947 Hudson Pickup With Bullet Holes!

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The stories this old Hudson could tell! This 1947 Hudson pickup was pulled from the New Mexico desert where it obviously spent quite a bit of time exposed to the elements. It also features a slew of bullet holes and amazing patina. It can be found here on eBay with an asking price of $5,777. The truck still resides in New Mexico and amazingly has a clear title. It would make an awesome rat rod project, even if you only used the cab! Thanks to Russ D. for the tip on this truck, have a look for yourself.

The interior is obviously roached due to the years of sun and critters. If this truck is going to be used as a rat rod though, there’s really nothing needed from the original interior. How about some bomber seats along with license plates or old street signs to patch the floors and door panels? Yes, please.

The original engine is long-gone, but this probably wouldn’t be a restoration project even if the drivetrain was intact. Since you can’t buy a Hudson crate engine in 2020, what would your ideal powerplant be for a Hudson project? Would you try and find an original Hudson engine or is anything fair game? Flathead? GM crate? Something more exotic? Let us know your opinion.

Hudson pickups have a very unique style. You can see from this photo just how long the hoods and front fenders are compared to their Ford, Chevy, and Dodge counterparts from the same era. They were almost a car/truck cross-over. According to hemmings.com: “Hudson Cab Pickups were indeed rare, in that only 3,104 were sold in 1946; and 1947 would be their final year. The Hudson Super Six pickup is a great example of the car-like pickups that had yet to gain a foothold in the market long before the success of the El Camino and Ranchero.” Are you a fan of Hudson pickups? I don’t know how far away from the truck the sharpshooter was, but that’s not a very good grouping!

I guess it was shot at numerous times by numerous people.

This one is the ULTIMATE Rat Rod prototype.

Hop it up and cruise it. You could even paint “Shabby Chic” on the tail-gate!!

Saw several of these pickups in wrecking yards around Farmington, Bloomfield, and La Plata, New Mexico.
    No bullet holes.
This one is near El Paso.
Must have been a Studebaker dealer in Farmington. Tons of Studes all over the Northwest New Mexico.
Found a 59 Ford 2 door wagon, 61 Plymouth wagon.
    Can’t save them all

Thank you Joe. I am going to stash that information away for after I move to New Mexico.

Moving to NM or keep on going might not be a bad idea with November approaching.

$5,777?!? Are they charging a dollar a hole?!? If that’s the case, might be worth investing in shotgun and blasting some holes in my daily driver!

Naw, just make the guy an offer. Cash talks.

As for investing in firepower, that’s a tougher than you think investment.

First you have to stand in line for hours, give info on where your crib is, how long you been there, a gizzillion questions, if you have a safe and HOW much toilet paper you have or have been hoarding.

If you have an extensive criminal record then getting firepower is no problem..it’s the rest of us ( well some) law abiding citizens that have to worry..just sayin

Yep, firepower is no problem, but just try finding some ammo for it…

Since it’s so far gone, but still retains the general shape, may as well resto-mod the crap out of it. They are so rare, just seeing one is amazing. With parts unobtainable, I hope you have your own foundry,,,

Not quite true Howard. They do exist but you just have to know where to look.

Hudson crate motors not available? Bah!

    This needs this:

I bet it will fit in that extra long engine bay.

Not a boat anchor, but it will act like one… it adds over 2,200 lbs to the weight of the vehicle. No big deal, right?… Just upgrade the axles and springs! ;)

How about a V-12 Rolls or Allison motor??

Can you imagine blowing the doors off of the Jag or ‘Vette at the signal uptown in this jalopy?

Not to mention the poor chaps tupee from the jet blast!

Its down to $4950 now , what a bargain ! If its future is a Rat Rod hopefully the builder will at least try to make it look like a 50s style homemade hot rod ; not those overdone ones with license plates and street signs for interior work and a hubcap for an air cleaner stuff.

Lots of potential for a rat rod could be a lot fun.

If you rat rod it you have enough horse power to get all those bullet holes whistling. Probably would sound like a 100mph flute band.

Had a ‘40 Super Six. These Big Boy pickups use a lot of the sedan parts so they are available. Front grill will be costly. Motor and tranny you can get if you want to go stock. Know someone with one of these with a 308, which are easy to find. Goes like stink, looks great, and sounds even better.

Seen one with an extra cab modification that looked great. Seen another one that was sectioned. The sectioned one looked amazing.

Would cost too much to restore I think. These are sort of rare. Just about right price for the start of a wicked rod.

LED lights in the bullet holes! Blower sticking out of the hood! Think out of the box, jack in the box that is!!

    One word: Tesla

This would make an excellent outside the box electric rod and the bed with a faux floor for the batteries. All you need is a wrecked “8”. Patina tech…as good as it will get. Let’s see that at SEMA!

40 ft boat motors, rat rod it, section, etc. No… I’ve seen em OEM and that’s expensive but an approach toward it is not. Any flathead & interior. Mechanical breaks, 6volt system w/quality cloth wrapped wires, nice paint…

Not a fan of this site but here’s a pic surfaced when I googled:
