1953 Lincoln Capri Coupe: Going Back

1953 Lincoln Capri Coupe

Before building massive luxury cars and commercials featuring Matthew Mcconaughey rolling a burger between his fingers (, Lincoln was Ford’s top of the line marque. In those days it wasn’t just about luxury, but about providing an experience. Lincolns had to be big, comfortable, and fast. This Capri Coupe isn’t the biggest Lincoln, but it’s still a big car for a coupe. Ford stuffed just about every option and piece of technology they had into this Capri, making it a surprisingly modern vehicle to travel in. This one has been in storage for the past 48 years, but sadly was repainted prior to going into the barn. It isn’t exactly original, but older restorations aren’t always a bad thing. With some work, this could be a cool ride to cruise around in! Take a look at it here on eBay in Sunbury, Pennsylvania with a Buy-It-Now of $5k. I just hope the mice didn’t do too much damage to the interior and wiring. So which do you prefer, Lincoln or Cadillac?

Up to 61, I’m a Caddy man then from 61-67 I will take a Lincoln and better yet, Imperial!

The car’s body does not look too bad. The rust on that bumper looks bad. I wonder what the floorboards and undercarriage looks like?

Lincoln all day long, twice on Sunday. This is what my buddies and I would call a Hoopum Lincoln. And if you know what that means, we miss you….

That giant mouse hole on the back seat means this thing’s going to stink inside and it won’t go away easily.

Old PA title has an “E” beginning, meaning 5th owner. Hokey paint job. Interesting, tho. GWTS!

I’ve liked these 53 Capri since a kid. Our next door neighbor, a pilot of American Airlines, had one that was yellow with a black top. I always thought that it was a cool looking car.

Never really cared for this year, stylistically it always looked too much like a Mercury to me. My favorite Capris are the 1957-60 ones with the amazing spaceship/batmobile styling.

This car is not all that exciting to look at, but these Lincolns were not lookers but pleasers. This is the Lincoln model that Clay Blair and others modified to dominate the Pan-America Carrera in the early Fifties, and the basic car was plenty good.

I’m the fellow who found/saved this Lincoln. A few comments on the posted remarks, FYI.
Car is 100% rust/rot free except for battery box bottom. ALL floors and trunk etc. virgin original metal and factory paint. Complete except for windshield washer bottle and bracket. Peeling bumpers pure ugly, why?? Correct PA. “E” title as noted, NO issue date on title. Car last inspected/registered 1965.
I remember this goofy rear fender paint treatment on 55/56 FORDS (around the front and rear wheel well flares) back in late 50s but don’t recall it on Mercs or Lincolns. Note, the (shortened) beltline trim under the windows is 1954 Plymouth or Dodge(Indy Pace Car). Would you believe 5+ trash bags of mice leavings/seat stuffing etc!
Most interesting to me; ZERO ebay response from “Barn Find” in auction title. Also Classic Price Guide ($10000) pure bogus IMHO.
Currently undergoing full professional restoration with happy (81 years young) new owner. Despite the exterior repaint, the most unmolested, original car from the 50s I have seen in many years.
