1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Project

Tri-Five Chevys are some of the most recognizable and collectible classic cars. This one is a Bel Air from 1955 and it looks like it could definitely use some attention. It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $3,050 and the reserve hasn’t been met yet. Located in Malden, Massachusetts, unfortunately, there is not much information in the ad. It appears to be a project that has been stalled for some reason. If you are in the market for a relatively inexpensive Shoebox Chevy project, this might be the one for you.

The interior appears to be mostly intact. For some reason, the dash appears to be half painted in primer. Perhaps some custom work was done? Also, the ad states that there is no engine included with the sale, but apparently the radiator and transmission cooler is.

It looks like at least one room in the seller’s house has been designated for parts storage. The seller says they will provide a list of every part that is included with the sale. You can see some pretty valuable parts in this photo including the grille(s), trunk lid, bumpers, trim, steering wheel, and fenders.

The seller says “the floors got holes” which is probably an understatement. There are a few photos in the ad documenting the rust issues on the car. As you can see in this photo, the rear quarter panel has a large spot of rust that goes into the floors and rockers. I don’t know if the body is salvageable or not, but there are quite a few sources for aftermarket sheet metal, so all it will take is time and money to get it back into shape. What do you think of this one? Is it too far gone?

I’m sure the price will exceed $5K which is getting pricey for a car that needs almost every panels fixed or replaced. Its funny back in the esrly 80’s I had a ’68 Camaro. One time bought a old ’55 Chevy race car named “Baby Huey”. Sat in it and thought man this car is small inside!

as much as I like old vehicles, this one I am afraid would be used as a junker for parts only. Who ever owned it, obviously did not look after it.

The first car I bought was a 55 Belair like this one. Mine was in better shape than this when I sent it to the junkyard. My how times have changed.
