1966 Ford Econoline: 18 Year Slumber

1966 Ford Econoline

After an 18 year nap this 1966 Ford Econoline van is ready to wake up and play. It’s rust free and runs, but the clutch and brakes need help. It’s completely stock and complete. The $3200 asking seems pretty reasonable, but what do you think? Parts are plentiful and reasonable as these are based on the Falcon and thus the Mustang. There are lots of possibilities for this old van, from a promotional vehicle for your business to a fun weekend cruiser, looking original or customized. Which ever route you take it, it will be a fun project! I wonder if a 289 would fit under the hood? These have been getting very popular and there are some interesting custom Econolines out there for ideas. It’s currently located just south of San Francisco and listed here on craigslist.

Looks like an old Pacific Bell telephone van. They were all green with yellow or white lettering back in the day.

Could be a fun project. I can never figure out why sellers leave the tires either flat or semi-flat when taking pictures of it to sell. It goes with the fuzzy and sideways pictures.

Those wheels look too nice to have rolled18 years on that truck. As for the flat tire, he probably pumped them all up, went to get his camera and the tire leaked down by the time he came back to take pictures. Couldn’t be bothered to pump it up again. Those trucks were a handy size in town.

I owned a ’66 Econoline. Got it from my brother with broken rear springs and a slipping clutch; learned how to drive with the thing overloaded and merging onto Chicago expressway rush-hour traffic – uphill with that slipping clutch. The front end was loose as all get out. Yet I’d like to have another one – in better shape – to tool around town.
