1966 Pontiac Bonneville: Cheap Bonne

1966 Pontiac Bonneville

If you’ve been looking for an affordable surf wagon, your ship – or land yacht – has come in. This 1966 Pontiac Bonneville wagon here on eBay has a Buy-it-Now of $2,000 and is a running/driving example, despite being cosmetically challenged. The seller, Phil, doesn’t tell us much about the car except that it looks like it’s “all there,” so make of that what you will. There’s a fair amount of rust to contend with (and that’s even with the horrid photos), but the interior is surprisingly clean. I happen to like the original-appearing paint, which should be retained once the necessary respray is performed. However, this Bonneville may be too rusty to rescue, in which case the price should be lowered to reflect its parts car status and the good bits recycled in a more solid project. Do you think it’s past the point of no return?

ruff, ruff, ruff, and caddy engine, video shows driving, but does mean it will shift out of first gear, could be a cool car, not a cheap one to fix up.

This car could be saved. It has a clean interior. But a Cadillac engine… in a Pontiac? As long as the frame is not rotted. I don’t know if a sedan frame will fit.
This would be a good car to start with by keeping the rust at bay or at least at the ocean. haha
Take notes to where the problem areas are located. Get a cheap paint job. Look for replacement parts as you drive this. Cool car!

I had a similar Bonneville wagon. When new it was the “demonstrator” car for W. Lawson King, the owner of King Pontiac of Gaithersburg, MD. When Mr. King ordered it, he simply checked off EVERY possible option, and when faced with the more expensive of the 2 options, he went for the $. The car had 3 window stickers on the rear door & rear quarter windows! Dark silver gray, with black leather & black vinyl top, 421 V8 of course, power windows, vent windows, power seat, am/fm w/reverb, rear speaker & power antenna, 8-bolt wheels, tilt GTO wood steering wheel, even came with the GM canvas roof luggage box, and double GM air mattresses in their cardboard storage tubes that doubled as the inflating pump [didn’t work very well].

After Mr King was finished with the wagon, the car was bought by a family member who used to buy Mr King’s Demonstators most years, and about 1975 I ended up with it. Severe frame rot caused me to part it out about 2001. In 1967 Mr King also ordered a fully optioned GTO coupe in silver, the same family member had it for a short time before selling it off as it was “too powerful”! I wish I had it today!

The only time, I, ever, can recall having seen one of these ’66 Pontiacs, in this same colour combination, it had an “Hurst” logo, on the driver door and, I’m guessing, on the passenger-side front door, also.
