197 Original Miles! 1996 Porsche 911 Turbo

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The 993-chassis Porsche 911 remains one of the most coveted air-cooled models ever made. Values barely ticked down in the years it became a used sports cars, and with the arrival of the liquid-cooled 996, values skyrocketed even further. The market for many sports cars has settled down in recent years, but not the 993; if anything, it has only grown more collectible. The car shown here is the desirable turbocharged spec, which was obviously made and sold in more limited quantities than the naturally-aspirated cars; as a bonus, it has under 200 original miles.  Find it here on craigslist for $485,000.

While some people will say cars are a lousy investment, there’s no denying that certain models handily beat those sentiments. In 1997, a 911 Turbo would have cost you roughly $105,000 in terms of MSRP; there may have been premiums added onto that by the dealer at the time. Regardless, in 2025 inflation-adjusted dollars, that’s approximately $211,000, so if the seller gets anywhere close to the asking price – and assuming it’s being consigned on behalf of the current owner – those are some healthy margins. The turbocharged 911s obviously sport wider bodywork, a larger rear spoiler, the iconic “twist”-style wheels, and a twin-turbocharged 3.6L flat-six engine.

The listing does confirm this 911 is being offered on behalf of the original owner, who was clearly in a position to not only spend six-figures on a sports car at the time but then also park it for the majority of its life. The first owner chose some very smart options that only serves to increase its desirability, including the optional 18-inch hollow-spoke “Technology” wheels; paint-to-sample Silver Metallic over upgraded gray leather; the European-specification springs, which give the car a lower ride height; and the usual assortment of comfort features in the cabin. What’s intriguing to me is that the first owner chose all the best options to make this 911 an even more responsive driver’s car and then chose not to drive it.

The 993-era 911 Turbo boasts an impressive 408 horsepower and 398 lb.-ft. of torque. That power is channeled through a four-wheel drive system that offers exceptional handling in addition to the responsiveness of the motor. Road test editors will often cite how ideal the 993 Turbo is in terms of being both an outstanding performance car but one that you can also drive to work, should you be so brazen as to put a car like this into the thick of commuter traffic. Obviously, this 911 Turbo will never be used as a regular-use vehicle in any way, and while that’s a shame, it will someday make a phenomenal museum exhibit. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Mitchell G. for the tip.

I had a 1997 C4S (turbo body, brakes, but no turbo). That was a great car and obviously, I should have kept it.

“Where should we market this unicorn? I know, let’s put it on Craigslist. I sold my leaf blower in just a few hours last week…”

      feEBay sells leaf blowers too.

Could be the best $5 the seller ever spent, so why not give it a try.

Incredible! Amazing! I own a 993 now but would love to have this piece3 of perfection. With all that said my next comment has to be “stupid”. Stupid because it is so perfect and such low mileage that it has reached a point where it can’t be driven. If it gains much mileage it will lose it’s amazingness and soem of its value. Having a car that you can’t drive because it is too nice and has too little miles is a waste of what a car was meant to be – especially a Porsche. THEY WERE MEANT TO BE DRIVEN!

The seller was so enamored with taking pictures of the outside (24) they didn’t take one single picture of the inside. Really? And they’re asking Mecum and Barrett Jackson prices. A $5 craiglist ad isn’t going to generate the exposure for that kind of money. Beam me up Scotty.

The last generation of the iconic “air-cooled” and a turbo at that, plus the mileage, I definitely would target a major auction house and would not be surprised as the gavel hits seven figures in this car climate???
