I love an optimist but this seller might be a little too optimistic on the asking price of $7,500 for this 1972 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible. The Corvette is pretty beat up, the interior is trashed and there is no engine under the hood. However, it is a convertible and a 4 speed car. You can bid on this car or select the Buy It Now here on eBay. The car is located in sunny Cape Coral, Florida.
Seeing the 4 speed shift pattern on the console always makes my heart beat faster but this car is a project and is going to need a full restoration. The car spent part of its life in Illinois and the additional pictures on eBay indicate that there may be some rust issues to inspect before purchasing this Yellow Corvette. All the gauges appear to be present but the radio is missing. The manual transmission is AWOL but the third pedal and linkage are intact.
The seller states that he bought the car a little over a year ago but has not had the time to work on it. That might be because this restoration would be a full time job! A 350 cubic inch V8 block comes with the purchase of the car but it doesn’t look too promising and will need to be rebuilt also. The car apparently came with power brakes but appears to have been in a wreck based on the damage to the fiberglass. The hard top roof is an obvious plus for this car and looks to be in good condition.
This was the last year of the front and rear chrome bumper Corvettes. This project is going to need everything so I hope the buyer has a lot of parts on hand. So am I too pessimistic or is $7,500 about twice what this 1972 Chevrolet Convertible Corvette is worth?
Way overpriced. I have restored two C3 Corvettes in far better shape than this. The parts alone fills a 2 inch thick binder with ZERO body work. This is a 4 speed, big deal, half the people today can’t even drive a stick. It is an A/C car, so it could be an LT-1, the only year GM offered air with the solid lifter 255 hp small block. About 214 were built, but GM put a different tach redline on air cars as to keep the belt from blowing off. I’ve seen it done. It has a few options, such as power brakes and the custom interior, evidenced by the wood trim around the shift boot.
Didn’t the LT-1 cars have the big block hood though? This just has the plain Jane small block hood
Price dropped to $6900 — still no takers. There’s a boatload of work and parts needed to fix this with what you can see. Not to mention what’s hidden. Would guess it’s still too high but it only takes 1 interested party with money to make a sale.
He is lucky to get 5k and should deliver the car for free
Not enough there to warrant the asking price.
