1985 W100 4×4 and 1982 D150 Dodge Pickups

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The seller of these two Dodge pickups says they want to sell one of them, but for $12,500, why not just buy both? One is a 1985 Dodge Ram W100 short bed Sweptline 4×4 with a 360 V8 for $5,000, and the other is a 1982 (with a later grille?) Dodge Ram D150 Utiline with a rebuilt 318 and a four-speed manual, and it’s $7,500. Check them out here on craigslist in Lakewood, Colorado. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Mike F. for the tip!

The 1985 W100 4×4 short bed Swepline is shown here, and it looks pretty good to me for $5,000. A 115″ wheelbase short-bed truck is more than big enough for any of my pickup duties. There are some paint issues, and the seller doesn’t mention rust at all on either truck, but there appears to be a rust hole above the left rear wheel well on the side of the bed. Otherwise, both trucks look solid to me.

The two-wheel drive 1982 D150 Utiline short-bed truck appears in much nicer condition, and it has an ace up its sleeve: a rebuilt 318 and a four-speed manual. If you can live without power going to all four wheels and don’t mind the Utiline box style, this may be the one for you. The seller is asking $7,500 for this one.

The interior of the 1985 W100 4×4 looks good, other than what I’m guessing is an issue with the driver’s side of the optional fabric and vinyl bench seat. This truck has an automatic, so there’s that, and a 360 V8 won’t win any MPG contests if you’re looking for an economy hauler. But it looks just plain cool, and that’s a big consideration for a lot of us who aren’t contractors and don’t need a pickup for strictly business use. Power brakes were standard, and they had discs on the front.

The 1982 D150 Utiline truck looks almost like new inside as well as outside. And that four-speed on the floor would make this one fun to drive if a person didn’t have any issues with shifting or using a clutch pedal. The seller gives no information at all about either truck, other than listing the basics and saying to call for more info. They both look like fly-in-and-drive-home trucks, but I don’t know for sure. The sad part is that I want them both.

I audibly gasped when I saw how clean this rebuilt 318-cu.in. OHV V8 was. The seller doesn’t show us the 360 V8 from the blue Styleside 4×4, sadly, but this one looks incredible. This truck has optional power steering, and it appears to also have power brakes! If this tan Utiline was a 4×4, it would be hard to resist with how nice it looks and with these features, along with that four-speed manual. I wouldn’t want to drive it on the salty roads anyway, so maybe it doesn’t matter if it’s a 4×4 or not. Which one of these two Dodges would you choose?

Wow Scotty!!!! Two for the price of one!!! The stepside is my favorite, 318 and a 4 speed. It seems to have a newer grill and headlights maybe an ’87? But it sure looks good to me. I’m with you, I’d enjoy just running it through the gears. I sorely wanted a 1980 stepside, two tone white with a blue roof, Slant 6 4 speed overdrive steelies, little button hub caps and whitewalls on it ( old man owned) the owner changed his mind and decided to not sell it. Which kind of was a huge bummer to me. This is great Scotty!! Thanks for writing it up. And Stan….. Absolutely his and hers …..

Thanks, Stan and Driveinstile – and thanks to Mike F. for finding this great tip!

Thanks also for catching the ’86+ grille! It is definitely not an ’82 eggcrate grille, I should have caught that, whew. My excuse is too much shoveling today… but really there’s no excuse for missing that.

Scotty, no excuse for working hard and shoveling.

We forgive you man. Seriously, a lot of the vehicles on this site seem to have grills, fascia or trim swapped from another model year. What does that mean? Maybe the vehicle was in a front end collision? Or did someone just think it looked better? Not really a truck guy anyway. They’re a pain to see around in a parking lot when trying to back out and people do not slow down anymore when they see someone edging out. And driving next to one in my Mustang I had a couple of gals in a SUV almost broadside me because they couldn’t see me.

        @ Fox Owner:

I left my 1973 Dodge van with my folks while I was stationed overseas in the USAF in 1975. When I left, the front marker/turn signal lenses were amber. When I returned a year later, they were clear with amber bulbs. It turned out that my father (a very responsible man) had loaned it to my brother (not so responsible), who rear ended a car and thought that, by fixing it, he had gotten away with it. Mystery solved.

I hope that 4spd isn’t the OD. If it is, it is a piece of crap. The interior with the wood grain dash and the ram hood ornament means this could have had the Prospector Pkg in it.
I factory ordered two ’85 318 4spd OD’s and they did not come with wood grain or the hood ornament. Except for A/C and AM/FM stereo they were plain jane D150’s. Vinyl mat and vinyl seat.
