The Mazda RX7 has always caught my eye for being an affordable hobby car with some excellent ’80s qualities, from pop-up headlights to clean, clutter-free Japanese interiors. This generation was really a high watermark for manufacturers like Mazda, Honda and Toyota, in my opinion, with lots of desirable enthusiasts cars within their mainstream ranks. This 1987 Mazda RX7 here on eBay throws some of those mainstream qualities out the windows with its exotic gullwing door conversion and a claimed 256 original miles. I’m not sure what the “Shoemaker” moniker represents, but the seller doesn’t give us many clues as to where this car originated or how it stayed in the wrapper for so long – but the asking price of $50,000 may scare most buyers away, regardless of details. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Jim S. for the find.

1987 Mazda RX7: Gullwinged Rotary

Same seller has a Miami Vice “knockoff”
Those wheels look grungy, as though they’ve seen a LOT more miles than 256!..or maybe it’s just the poor photography?? :-)
Viewing the seller’s other items is interesting to say the least.
They obviously had a lot of money in the 80s and ‘invested’ in trendy customs rather than tried and true classics.
Lots of body kits and gullwings in their ads!
It’s really got a “I’m selling the inheritance I got from my crazy uncle who made it big in the 80s” vibe
Absolutely!
Yikes!!
$50k puts a buyer in a healthy neighborhood of other, more desirable vehicles….
….shop wisely!
“Any Mechanical, Paint or Detailing Included in Price” What the heck does that mean? Anything I don’t like about it he’ll fix for free?
I’d think you’d have to include more than one mediocre picture to get that kind of money out of anything.
Hey look! It’s a poor man’s Delorean!
Why??? God why??
The rims look old and tired because they are off a Toyota Supra!! I can guarantee that those things have more than the stated miles and that they were hard miles!! Not that that affects the durability, just saying, Supras we driven hard! I see absolutely nothing in, on, around, that car that shows me it’s worth a $50K investment!!!!!!!!!! You see all the paint coming off the front bumper? Usually a sign of a poor repaint. At 200+ miles??! Yeah, time to use the old “Delete” button on that one.
I will admit his Mitsubishi that he also has for sale, carries a bit more interest but yet again, no real pics, no real info, and for sure NO REAL PRICING!
I came to this page and subscribed, just so I can see all of the witty, or caustic, or jovial posts…..
All of which are sure to be entertaining, and worth more to me than the car.
This guy has a gullwing turbo T-bird also….Guess it’s another case of “money can’t buy class”……….
