1992 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Heritage Edition Convertible

This Camaro may not look like much at first, but when you review the facts it becomes clear that this would be a special car to own. 1992 was the final year for the third generation Camaros, and according to the ad only 266 Heritage Edition convertibles were produced that year. Of those 266, only 114 were painted red and who knows how many of those came with red leather interior! This car has only covered 23,752 miles since it was new and spent lots of time in storage. Find it here on eBay in California with an $11,500 asking price.

The interior of this car is very much a reminder of the 1990s, finished in almost the same color of red as the exterior of the car. While a new car today would be considered gaudy if sold in this combination, in the 1990s these colors and styles were selling! The seats are in excellent condition, with the only damage being some wear and tear on the driver’s seat. According to the ad, all of the power accessories seem to work minus the driver’s seat. Though the interior isn’t perfect, for a 25 year old car this Camaro cleans up pretty well!

The Heritage Edition is simply an appearance package, and provided no mechanical or performance upgrades. Thus, under the hood sits a Tuned Port Injection 305 cubic inch V8 engine. The seller, a dealer in Van Nuys, received this car in non-running condition from Washington state. A new battery and pick up coil later, it was running and passed CA smog. The original exhaust was no longer attached or in good condition, so it was replaced with a 3″ Summit cat-back exhaust. Though the air condition will need to be serviced in order to function, the engine is said to be in good running condition.

Though it cleans up well, this Camaro is not perfect. Wherever it was stored was not kind to it and both the top and the paint show it. There are various paint defects, there is sap on the hood, and the top window is faded and weathered. However, this car has been detailed and shines up nicely even with its imperfections! This Camaro will still need some work to be perfect, but it likely won’t require anything a shade-tree mechanic can’t repair. Would you enjoy this Camaro as it is, or repaint it and make it mint?

Wow! What is not to like? A rare red bird. Much nicer looking than the 93 and up body style. Looks like a T/A GTA behind it.

I would say clean it up minor maintenance and leave it the way it is.

That’s actually not a bad price considering the condition and miles. Now what would be really rare is if it had a 5 speed!

I had one of these but w/o the black stripes. LOVED it! Oh, and mine was a stick with the big V8.

Mine came with red accents in the wheels. It had the easiest convertible top to put up and down.

My color, but a big block & 5-speed would make this one kinda neat. Price isn’t too bad.

A great car – you can actually drive it and not feel bad if someone opens their car door into it in a parking lot and chips the paint, but have a car few others have, and a top that goes down, on a day like this, when it is 75 degrees outside, enjoy it. Get the groceries, go to Home Depot, go the long way around. And, assuming it is not your daily commuter car, it will probably last another 20 years.

305 and an auto? Dealer that can’t make the A/C work? Needs a new top……Low miles is about ALL it has going for it $5k car in my book

Seems like quite the deal at this price, no? So what’s the catch?

While this one has seen better days, the market on them is steadily rising as the supplies of 1st & 2nd gen. F bodies continues to go down. The combination of special edition and bright red interior makes this one unique, but it’s “the top goes down, the price goes up” factor that really justifies the asking price, IMO. I know it’s not a Heritage Edition Camaro, but here’s my 92 Trans Am WS6 convertible and it IS a factory 5 speed. There’s nothing like the therapy of rowing through the gears to make you forget your problems for a while.
