1992 Ford F-150 Nite Edition 5-Speed

Spanning two generations yet made for only two model years, the Ford “Nite” edition is a truck that is rarely seen today. In fact, I bet that many people, even Ford fans/fanatics, haven’t heard of this one. The seller has this 1992 Ford F-150 Nite posted here on craigslist in the Freemont, California area, and they’re asking $13,995. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Tony P. for sending in this tip!

Ford made many special editions, so that isn’t too surprising that most folks haven’t heard of this unique model. And when all is said and done, it isn’t exactly a wild and eye-popping special graphics package or a model with many one-of-a-kind special features over a regular Ford truck. It started with the eight-generation F-Series for the 1991 model year (the last year of the eighth-gen trucks) and expanded to the first year of the ninth-gen trucks in 1992. In its last iteration in 1992, it wasn’t just for regular Styleside beds as it had been in 1991, but included Flareside trucks, as with this example, and also full-size Broncos.

I’m a sucker for any special editions and graphics packages. Yes, I love fast vehicles, but aside from track day, the speed limit is the speed limit (well, in 2023, not really) and you can only go so fast in public and do it safely. But, you can have a crazy graphics-laden special edition and stand out from the crowd that way, rather than with your driving prowess. Plus, don’t we all hate “that guy or gal” who zooms around others in traffic as if they’re some famous race car driver, anyway? Don’t be that guy or gal, get a graphics package instead. Speaking of that, this one seems to be missing the side stripe, so maybe it’s been repainted? Who knows, although the seller does say that it’s all original. It should have a color-shifting blue/purple side stripe that dies into a NITE graphic on the rear sides of the bed.

For those of you who would rather zoom around your coffee table, there are a number of diecast versions of this truck. Speaking of zoom, right before the Ford Lightning, there was the Nite package. I was under the impression that the Nite version came with fabric seats, but the seller doesn’t mention this bench seat as having been replaced. Most of the ones also seem to have bucket seats, especially when they have a manual transmission, as this one does.

The engine looks suspiciously like a Ford F-150 Nite edition interior with a dash cover and vinyl seat, weird. Sadly, as with a lot of craigslist ads, the seller didn’t bother popping the hood to show an engine photo, as if people who buy vehicles on craigslist could care less about engines and just want to see a few interior photos from the same angle over and over again. This one has a 302-cu.in. OHV V8 with around 185 horsepower, and it runs perfectly, according to the seller. There should be a NITE logo just under the bottom right side of the dash pad, which we don’t see either. Have any of you heard of the Ford “Nite” model?

Scotty, I do remember the Nite edition. I vaguely remember seeing a few when new (including Broncos), but none since. So, here we have a Nite edition without the defining blue/purple stripe? Otherwise, a short bed Flareside with a manual transmission in apparently good condition– I like the combination.

And I agree, today the speed limit is the speed limit, but not really.

I have a 92 Nite flareside rcswb 4×4 with a 5.0. Love this truck since I was a kid and got lucky to find one. If interested I’ll sign up and post some pics. Super clean, well maintained and real eye turner. Gets lots of chatter at car meets. Not surprised many people haven’t seen them since production numbers were really low.

It’s a good-looking truck with reasonable mileage and everybody like a black pickup, don’t they? Because it makes your truck look mean, I guess. This F150 seems to be in good condition in and out with no really obvious flaws. I’m thinking the side stripe wouldn’t work on a flareside bed and that’s way it’s not there. The bed is a short bed, and it has the desirable 5-speed stick, a plus for most guys. The wheels I’m guessing are aftermarket and look good on this black pickup. Overall, I like this pickup, it has a lot going for it and given prices these days, the ask is probably reasonable for an OBS Ford pickup.

The wheels are factory stock. At least here in Arizona a lot of Ford trucks had them

Correct – those are the wheels that came on the Nite trucks.

Well, shows you how much I know! They certainly are a good-looking wheel.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a tape stripe delete option on the Nite package. I remember lusting after these when I was in high school. It was a subtle, yet attractive package.

So, it doesn’t have a lot of the standard Nite equipment. But it has the floor mats. It must be real.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and call this one a clone in the Nite edition all the chrome was blacked out including the back of the mirrors and this one has a pad covering where the night emblem on the dash should be, why would you take off all the purple and blue stripes only to leave the ugly purple on the gate, but it is a nice low mileage F150

it looks there is a stripe on the drive’s side but not on the passenger side

I like this truck, mainly because of the 5 speed, low mileage and condition, but how do you know it’s a 302? Ford still didn’t get the flareside look quite right. The fenders are much bigger than they need to be. In fact, they almost look like the fiberglass fenders from a dually. If it were closer though, I would definitely be interested.

Flare sides did have the stripes. Only thing in the interior was the small Nite logo on the dash trim on the passenger side and floor mats. Seat should be cloth also with a fold down arm rest. This has an aftermarket chin spoiler also. I agree that someone got some floor mats and a couple of decals. Still a really clean truck all the same and if everything works a good price for sure. Wish it was closer to me, would seriously be looking at this!

The Flareside beds were Ranger boxes with wide fenders.

I agree. I think this is a clone. A nice truck, but missing some of the key features that came with the NITE package.

I just clicked on the craigslist ad and now he’s asking $14,700! The price has gone up even though there were no takers at the lower asking price. Hmmm…

Hi, Guys I just bought this truck here in Sonoma County, CA. Overall a good truck but reading your comments got me second guarding myself if this is a clone nite or real deal. The registration says it’s an Xlt.
