1993 Dodge Daytona IROC V6 5-Speed

Made for 10 model years, from 1984 through 1993, the Dodge Daytona went from crisp angles and full headlights, to rounded (some might say melted-bar-of-soap) edges and hidden/pop-up headlights, to again having exposed headlights, but more in keeping with the aero theme. The seller has this second-owner 1993 Dodge Daytona IROC posted here on craigslist in Leighton, Pennsylvania, and they’re asking $7,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Mitchell G. for the tip!

I’m always interested in first or last-year vehicles, and as the last year for the Dodge Daytona, not to mention having a V6 and 5-speed manual, this is an intriguing car. Speaking of intriguing, I think the front clip of the 1992 and 1993 Daytonas looks a bit like the Oldsmobile Intrigue, or maybe a Chevy Lumina? A Monte Carlo, maybe? Only 9,062 Daytonas were made in their final year of 1993, so they’re fairly rare today.

IROC – the International Race of Champions – is more known for Camaros, but the Daytona had a version, or actually, two versions. This is the first, the basic version with a V6, but there was also an IROC-R/T version with a hot turbo engine and more horsepower. This car looks almost like new, and with 88,000 miles, that isn’t easy to do with what was considered a performance car at the time. I don’t see a flaw anywhere on or in this car.

This is one very rare case where a craigslist seller, a friend of the car’s owner, knocks it out of the park with great photos and plenty of them. The only thing we don’t see is the underside, and being from Pennsylvania, I’d want to see those. That being said, I don’t see any rust or anything concerning at all on the body. The interior also looks fantastic, with the classic 1980s/90s velour seats both front and rear. The rear cargo area looks like new, and the seller took the time to show the cover both open and closed. A major gold star for this presentation!

The engine is Dodge’s 3.0-liter SOHC V6 with 141 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. Backed by that sweet-shifting five-speed manual sending power to the front wheels, everything on this Daytona IROC is said to be working as it should. Have any of you owned a Daytona? How about one with a V6?

Nice car, nice price. These are good driving cars and good looking too. We enjoyed our ’86 and the buyer will enjoy this one too.

I was in a relationship in the 80s with a woman who was a very prim and proper suit wearing bank executive. However, she had a thing for fast cars. When I met her, she had an RX-7. Shortly after we met, I purchased a new Plymouth Grand Voyager, which I used for work and my collectibles side gig. Not to be outdone, she showed up at home shortly thereafter in one of these in black. As we lived in the mountains with lots of twisty roads, both of those cars were lots of fun to drive compared to my minivan. She was a classic case of “Don’t judge a book by its cover”.

Chrysler did a commendable job updating and facelifting these. I always liked the ’84 Dodge Daytona driven by “The Brass Cupcake” Dee Dee McCall in the TV Show Hunter. But all of them looked good.

I’ve had several Daytonas over the decades, starting with a brand new silver 84′ Daytona turbo. Currently have a 84′ Daytona turbo z I bought from the orig. VA owner with 58k miles. Always loved these cars and always enjoy seeing when one comes up as you basically never see them anymore. This ones in really nice shape, which is pretty hard to find as most were just throw away cars to most people. I actually prefer the first gen 84′-86′ the most. Was never a big fan of the 90′ interior make-over with that pod dash set-up among other things. Still, a very nice Daytona and you never see these on the road anymore.

Same here. I like the earlier, sharper edged models better. These facelifted one never did it for me. By that time, I would have gone for an Eclipse.

This CL listing made all the better with that glorious black and blue Nighthawk S in the background in one photo! 🤘😛🤘 The Daytona aged nicely with the updates. Although I still have a soft spot for the sharper edged rear spoiler.
