2 For 1: 1969 Dodge Charger Plus 2017 Hellcat Donor

It’s not unusual for a project to sometimes include a similar second car, often intended to source body parts or other components needed for the restoration.  However, this two-for-one offering is somewhat out of the ordinary, as it includes both a 1969 Dodge Charger plus a 2017 Dodge Charger Hellcat.  The seller paired them with the idea that the latter could provide the engine and transmission for the former, as the ’69 currently has neither.  If you’re feeling the idea of creating a vintage B-Body powered by a more modern powertrain, this combination might be worth considering, provided you have the necessary skills to make it happen.  These Mopars are inside a garage in Hudson, Florida, and can be found here on eBay. So far, nobody has placed the opening bid of $45,000.  We’d like to thank reader Russell Glantz for his excellent tip here!

The ’69 has already had the outside sprayed with a coating of primer, and there’s no word on whether any bodywork was performed before this was done.  The only information provided is that all of the panels are original and it’s ready for a restoration, with a lower valance, both bumpers, and all the needed glass included, minus a windshield.  It’s hard to know exactly what lies underneath all that gray, but the sheet metal appears reasonably straight and solid overall, so hopefully, this is a decent shell to start with.  The worst area seems to be the passenger side quarter, but if it’s not already full of filler, this panel is probably repairable.

The details given regarding the Hellcat are sparse, but the seller does mention that everything works as it should and that the car runs and drives great.  That leaves questions, such as why this one’s a candidate to disassemble, with a rebuilt title likely being the best clue.  The sedan certainly looks OK, but it remains a mystery as to why this one ended up with a title that has the potential to demote it to such a level.  Hopefully, whatever occurred didn’t affect the engine, and the Hemi V8 and eight-speed automatic transmission will be ready to perform to a high standard, once installed in the older Charger.

The vintage car was previously stripped of most everything inside, and I’m not sure if the seller’s intention is to also transplant the Hellcat’s interior, or to restore the cabin with circa ’69 parts.  Another option is to just drive the sedan and try not to worry about the title status, and source the items needed to return the older Charger to its original specs.  This is certainly an untraditional pairing, and while I can envision the same potential as the seller, there are other possibilities here as well.  How would you move forward with this 1969 Charger and 2017 Hellcat combo?

The Hellcat’s front end is from a 2014 or older.

Something is amiss with the hellcat. Front and rear are both from a 2011-2014 charger which came at best with the SRT8 (6.4L) engine. Rebuilt title, but I’d want to know a bit more about this before putting in a bid. Looks like 2 different projects to me–both of which I would still be interested in!

Looks like the primer is hiding a significant amount of rot. Blowing up the seller’s pictures show a lot of rust. Both the trunk & cabin floor look rotten as well. Before making a bid, I’d advise asking for some underneath shots. This could be completely rotten. As far as the HC goes, lots of fishy stuff there. Buyer definitely beware!
