If you’re a dedicated Mustang enthusiast, here’s your chance to add a truly rare thoroughbred to your stable. This 2002 Ford Mustang Saleen S281SC, for sale in Trumbull, Connecticut, is a documented one of one example—Saleen #604—finished in Oxford White over a charcoal interior. Backed by the original window sticker and Saleen Registry documentation, this car stands out not just for its exclusivity, but for its exceptionally well-preserved condition and high-performance upgrades. You can check out the full listing here on craigslist.

With just 29,700 miles on the clock, this Saleen was clearly treated as a collector’s item. The seller notes that it has been “impeccably kept” by a longtime enthusiast with over 55 years of experience in car care and detailing. According to the ad, the car has never seen rain and still shows as a 9.5 out of 10 in condition. It runs “straight as an arrow” and features a host of factory and aftermarket performance enhancements that make it far more than a showpiece.

Power comes from a Saleen-supercharged 4.6L V8 reportedly producing 440 lb-ft of torque. It’s mated to a Tremec 3650 5-speed transmission with a short-throw Saleen shifter, which was recently serviced. Additional performance upgrades include Racecraft suspension, big brakes, and an Off-Road X-pipe paired with an SLP exhaust system. The seller also includes the original H-pipe with catalytic converters for those who prefer a stock setup.

Aesthetically, the car wears 18-inch chrome staggered wheels wrapped in brand-new Continental ExtremeContact Sport O2 tires. Other unique features include fiberglass sail panels, a custom rear decklid, and the unmistakable heat extractor hood. The Oxford White paint, paired with Saleen’s distinctive bodywork, makes for a clean and aggressive appearance.

This Saleen offers serious appeal for anyone who wants something more exclusive than your average SVT Cobra or GT. Whether you’re a dedicated collector or simply a Mustang fan looking for the ultimate modern classic, this Saleen S281SC checks all the boxes—rarity, performance, and documentation.

Would you drive this rare pony or keep it tucked away as a future blue chip?

I had a GMC customer that lived up in Lake Tahoe that had alot of work done to his SVT Cobra convertible. Including a large Supercharger. Just about any throttle depression would light the tires. GREAT FUN! On day (about 2005) he came by the dealership and threw me the keys. “Going to Canada for a week and I would rather you drive it than have it sit in the parking lot at the airport. Don’t worry about burning off the tires, as I’m getting new ones as soon as I get back. Have fun!” It was beautiful convertible weather the whole time he was gone and I put some miles on that car! Great fun!

What’s the horsepower? It only mentions the torque.

I think this pony needs to be driven. Too much garage time is not doing that car any favors, But it’s ok in the winter. The modifications give it some more guts , but to the purist it is a big downside. Which camp will buy this baby ?

These cars are the best of any Mustang body styles. In my humble opinion. The Saleen Rocks!!!

I had one like it, Car# 235. Sold it five years ago to a guy in GA. Could kick myself. That car is about 385 horse.
LOVE this body style. White was the BEST color, “Hands Down”.
    Collectors LOVE low mileage cars.

We went to the Mustang Show 2025 in Myrtle Beach last week. No Saleens at all. Mostly Newer Stangs from 2005 and up.

Me and my Husband want to purchase this one, who doesn’t.
Lots of Super Charged Fun for sure!
