20k Mile 1983 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

In 1983 28,451 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham vehicles were produced. During the same year Oldsmobile produced nearly a million cars so this trim level is relatively less common. American luxury cars in the ’70s and ’80s have a very specific and cool energy. They’re relatively affordable when compared to the luxury options of today. The example at hand is said to have just 20k miles and is for sale on craigslist in San Leandro, California for $10,200. Thanks to numskal for the tip.

The exterior is finished in what can be assumed to be the original Light Blue Royal Metallic. It is in okay condition. There are some minor scratches and very small dents throughout. The color-matching vinyl top is in good condition and appears to be free of blemishes. The wheels are the traditional spoke-wheel and are also in terrific condition. The seller notes there is no rust present.

The interior is finished in a body-matching blue. The plush seats are ultra-luxurious and are in great condition. The seller notes the clock no longer works. The passenger side mirror is defective, and the headliner is sagging. The AC needs to be serviced. The driver’s seat needs to be repaired. All issues could be addressed without breaking the bank.

A 3.8L V6 engine sends 110 horsepower to the wheels via a 3 Automatic Turbo Hydra-matic transmission. The engine bay appears to be in fair condition but would need a detailing service to be show quality. This vehicle is a perfect first project for someone who wants to learn how to do minor paint, body, and interior work. It presents well as-is but would be stunning with a little work. With only 20k alleged miles, the Cutlass will likely run without issues for a very long time. These cars are a lot of bang for your buck and the next owner will surely enjoy it on evening cruises. Base model, w the Brogham package ?
That plush interior looks so inviting and comfortable. Don’t be in a hurry, w the 3.8L and standard 2.41 gear.
Always liked the square lines on these cars. Seville like.

The Brougham was a separate model, not a package. I owned a 1980 Cutlass Supreme Brougham Coupe and was selling them at the time.

Back then customers could pick and choose their options individually. They weren’t part of packages. This one is nicely equipped for the day. Power windows, driver’s seat and door locks, tilt wheel, AM/FM radio w/cassette player, air conditioning, dual outside sport mirrors, body side moldings, door edge guards and what looks to be factory pinstripes. The vinyl top looks like it’s aftermarket.

Cheers rmward. 🍻 thanks for the clarification. Good eye on the vinyl top. Didn’t the factory one have a badge mounted in there ?

I think it is a replacement top. The seam is in the center it looks like. Factory had seams more towards the edges I believe. That would explain the missing emblems.

I daily drove an ’86 version, white with blue velour interior for about six years. Great car. Besides routine maintenance the only real issue I ever had was a tie rod failure from driving into a huge pot hole going down an expressway at 50mph. Luckily I was able to pull over safely. I ended up replacing both sides and some front bushings but other than that, the Olds was very reliable, it got decent gas mileage and insurance was inexpensive. I’d not mind owning another.

There are a lot of older people in the area where the seller is located that were of the age who would have bought this when it was new. This ad comes across as a flip with little to no work put in by the seller. With all the work he says it needs he’d be lucky to get close to his asking price.

No matter how nice it’s said to be, there is nobody willing to pay a premium when compared to all the other generic 4 doors of this era in similar condition listed for a fraction of the price.

Bought 84 coupe new off showroom. silver w/black interior. Drove for 100k with almost no problems other than maintenance. 20+ mpg. Great value for the bucks.

My mother in law had a loaded version of the subject in bronze with vinyl top and pillow velour seats. The worst thing about the car was riding in the back seat…FIXED window glass…mother in law rarely used the AC because it reduced her mpg

A/C not working could certainly “break the bank”
IF it was an easy fix it would have been done…

The whitewall or should I say bluewall tires nicely match the car! Yeah, I know!
DI owned a ’84 Brougham cpe. for 27 years with this engine. A little bit of a dog, but got you there with decent gas mileage.

Nice car but its a 119,000 miles on it. The ware on the right of the brake pedal and missing service sticker on the door reflect that in my opinion the price of this car should be closer to the asking price of the K car also previewed in today’s email.

Would be a far better car with the V-8

Absolutely! Too bad it didn’t come with the 260 V8, then it would be real easy to swap in the Olds 350.

A very popular vehicle with Hertz and Avis.

Is this the body style where the rear vent wings were added because the rear side glass doesn’t go down at all?

Yes sir. 4-door only. Although this a better roofline than the ugh! fastback from ’78-’80.
