The seller tells us that this V8/air conditioned/Pony interior Mustang has been stored for 30 years in a barn, but is now for sale here on eBay. There’s a buy it now price of $7,500 and bidding is up to $3,400 without meeting the reserve. The Mustang is currently corralled in Alexandria, Virginia.
While there’s some rust present (more on that later) there are some typical spots that aren’t very rusty, like this area in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side of the car.
However, if you look closely at the driver’s side rear quarter panel, it may superficially look good but there are issues. The contour isn’t quite right.
Underneath we see a crude “patch” job. Kudos to the seller for including pictures of this and other trouble spots!
The other quarter panel has similar issues, with more damage present. However, keep in mind that replacement panels for these cars are readily available and relatively inexpensive.
Although the exhaust system has seen better days, this view of the underside is a lot more solid than I was expecting to see.
The interior is by no means perfect, but the under dash air conditioning and original Pony interior will please some of you. Being a 289 V8 car you would expect to see engine pictures, but you would be wrong. Oh well, in this case it’s probably more important to see what you are getting into with the body shell. The original color of the car was gold, so if you perform the body repairs you’ll have a chance to repaint it to the original color anyway. What say you about this pony?
This one should find a good home…most of the repairs look reversible…that patch job reminds me of when my dad replaced the rusty battery tray on his Corvair convertible with my Mom’s cookie sheet…
The cookie sheet, actually not a bad idea!
Yea Mikey love that blowout patch on the quarter panel! I’m on the fence on this one–sure , coupes are plentiful, but this one presents itself nicely as is till you look closer. Mucho rust underneath. Pony int, a/c, v8…Probably worth it if u want to do the usual Rustang work–looks like the ironworms got up into the inner rockers also- quarters, floors, trunk (?), etc..whatya think guys, worth it??
Cheers
