300 HP V8! 2006 Ford Mustang GT Premium

The Ford Mustang will soon celebrate its 60th birthday and has become the longest-running nameplate in Ford history. It has outlasted all its competition, including the Chevy Camaro which will soon be making its swan song. In 2006, if you bought a new Mustang GT Premium, you got the best in performance and luxury that the “pony car” had to offer, like this sweet survivor with only 49,000 miles. Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, it’s available here on Barn Finds Classifieds with an asking price of $18,900.

While the “regular” Mustang had a V6 engine in 2006, the GT came with an all-aluminum 4.6-liter SOHC Modular V8 with a 5-speed Tremec transmission. It was quite the beast at 300 hp with 320 lb-ft of torque. As such, the Mustang could crack 14 seconds in the quarter mile without breaking a sweat. Automatic transmission-equipped models came with a 3.31:1 gear ratio. The GT was also treated to a beefier suspension for handling to match its power and acceleration. If you sprung for the Premium edition of the GT, you also got leather seats and even better passenger compartment trim.

We’re told this Ford in is excellent condition for its age and mileage. It only differs from stock with its aftermarket exhaust and new wheels sporting Goodyear Eagle rubber. It comes with the Shaker 500 audio system for super sound, has loads of power accessories, and the red/black interior goes nicely with the car’s shiny black paint.

The seller has provided a walkaround/driving video of this Pony, so you can get a better idea of what you are buying. The Borla exhaust might be a little loud for some, but it definitely sounds sweet in the driving video!

It’s wild to think that this Mustang is nearing 20 years old! Clearly, someone has taken good care of it and to have seen just 46k miles, it was likely used only for fair-weather drives. Between all the torque the 4.6 V8 puts out and the 5-speed manual, this would sure be a fun machine to have. So, if you’ve been on the hunt for a muscle car, this might just be the car for you!

The 5th generation Mustang, which started in model year 2005, is held in high regard among Mustang enthusiasts. It is generally agreed that Ford “nailed it” with respect to its retro-themed styling, packaging, performance, and amenities. Later in the model run were higher-performance variants (Shelby, Boss 302) which are highly desired.

So as these Mustangs are now 10 to (almost) 20 years old (gasp!!), they have reached the bottom of their depreciation curve. The performance variants never really greatly dropped in value; now, I would expect that clean examples of ‘regular’ models like this GT will start to increase in value. Get one while you can!!

These are common at Mustang Club of America shows. Here is mine at the recent Indianapolis show. Low option 2005 GT convertible, 5-speed, 33k miles.

In recent months prices of 2005-2014 Mustangs have been going up,especially if they’re equipped with either the 4.6 Modular V8 or the 5.0 Coyote. As soon as one pops up on the market it typically sells within a week or less. This one looks like it’s in decent shape for the money. My personal preference is the 2010-2014 version with the Modular V8 and the 5-speed manual (the 2010 to 2012 versions have a more menacing “P.O.d” look which suits the ponycar). Those tend to be more affordable versus the Coyote 6-speed manual version.

2005-2009 are the best looking Mustangs since 1970. I’m a proud owner of a Highland green 08 Bullitt.

Bullets look amazing in every yr. Yours may be the best George, great choice man. 👍 Green is mandatory, the black ones, are cool, just don’t look as good.

My first mustang ever was the ’06 GT auto, in 2012. Traded a 2010 Chevy Aveo and $21,000- for it and drove it to Virginia @ 26 mpg where it remains to this day. My daughter’s eye’s lit up when she saw it. How could I say no? I drove home in her ’08 Kia Rio. I went on to buy a few other used Mustangs, then switched to the mighty Dodge line up. All iconic in their own way.

Always nice to see an unmolested late-model Mustang. Love the red/black interior. I prefer the meaner, more muscular look and amazing 5.0 Coyote engine of the ’11-’14 Mustangs (full disclosure – I have a Race Red ’11 GT 6-speed), but I definitely appreciate the clean, athletic look of the ’05-’09s.

I think this is the best looking body style of Mustangs since 2005, though i would like to see one with ’60s Shelby taillights. Odd you rarely see these anymore ON THE ROAD or parked in driveways, let alone parked on streets – are most of the daily drivers in junkyards due to discontinued needed replacement electronics? These cars are a lot more complicated than OBD1’s prior to ’95.
This example illustrates today’s tacky cheap cheesy interpretation of a red interior. I really don’t think car buyers of the ’60s & ’70s would stand for this back then, let alone the useless back seat, compared to ’64-’78 models with room for 4.

How a few years made so much difference in performance. 2015 and up V6 Mustangs had equal hp and near identical torque and V8’s, significantly more. By then, the auto was the trans of choice for drag racing (but not as entertaining). As a friend proved on an autocross course, partly due to the live axle, a 2008 GT can quickly get out of hand.

And of course it’s missing the power outlet plug. I don’t think I’ve seen one of these that isn’t missing it

The shaker 500 was a step down from premium, I have an 06 GT convertible with 52,000 and mine has the shaker 1000 with a large kicker in the trunk .

I have an 06 GT. Great car, with only 59k on it. It has CAI, tuned for 93 octane, and 62 MM throttle body. It sounds awesome with the Roush Extreme cat back exhaust. My three sons can fight over it when I’m gone.
