302 V8 Project: 1969 Ford Mustang

Ford gave the Mustang its most extensive styling update in 1969 though it rode on the same platform that began the pony car fury in 1964. Changes to the fastback body style would be the most dramatic, creating an angle for the back glass that didn’t make it any easier to look out of. This ’69 Mustang appears to be an ordinary fastback, not one of the performance editions like the Boss 302 or Mach 1. This car looks to have just changed hands and the seller is waiting on the title to come through from the prior owner. It’s available on the back of a trailer in Middletown, New York, and here on eBay for $15,000 (or make an offer). Thanks for the ‘60s tip, Scott L.!

As the Mustang got older, competition would enter the field and reduce the car’s market share year after year. The updates for 1969 didn’t stop the sales slide as overall production dropped from 317,404 units in 1968 to 299,824. But the fastback would be a huge part of the Mustang mystique at 59,495, meaning that 1 of 5 Mustangs built in the last year of the 6th decade would be a fastback. All this being said, the Mustang was still the best-selling automobile in its class.

The seller does not refer to whether this Ford runs. It has a 302 cubic inch V8 (though the VIN decodes as an inline-6) with an automatic transmission. Typical options like power steering and power brakes are in the mix. It may have been a one-owner vehicle before the seller took possession. It’s described as a barn find project that’s in “amazing” condition, although the photos portray a less optimistic picture.

We’re told there’s “Not much rust” but for a black vehicle on a trailer, it’s hard to tell just how much of an issue that is. Nor can we get a good handle on the shape of the passenger compartment. And no title is immediately available though “in process”. If it were me, I wouldn’t try to sell the vehicle until this issue was ironed out. Is the seller in too big of a hurry to flip the car?

This car isn’t even a BASE V8! It originally came with the inline 6 and automatic transmission. Since matching numbers is out the window, this here is a perfect example of “it’s OK to modify this collectible car”. Sure wish there were more pictures of rust prone areas.

If the title issue can be addresses and the rust doesn’t turn into a bust in am quite impressed with the overall body (that we can see) with regard to panel fitment. Everything lines up incredibly well!

He or she shouldn’t quit their day job to pursue a career in photography that’s for sure. I don’t see 15 k here. You got it on the trailer either pressure wash it at home or take it to a 1.25 wand car wash.Cmon man.
