30k-Mile Project: 1967 Buick Electra

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Electra (aka “225”) was the flagship automobile built by Buick from 1959 to 1990. The 225 surname was a nod to the car’s length in inches. It was produced on the same C-body platform as other top-of-the-line big GM cars. This 1967 edition is described as a “barn find,” though we’re unsure of its living conditions in recent years. It will need some mechanical work (a flywheel at a minimum), but it has escaped the rust bug. Located in Chicago, Illinois, this land yacht is available here on eBay for $9,500 OBO and is another tip from Mitchell G.

GM’s president at the time contributed the name “Electra” for the big Buick (his sister-in-law from Texas). The 225 surname is also referred to as the “deuce and a quarter” in some circles. Third-generation Electras were on the assembly line from 1965 to 70, so the 1967 models received a modest facelift at the midway point. Also new for ’67 was a 430 cubic inch V8 that replaced the 401 and 425 “Nailhead” engines. It was good for 360 hp using a 4-barrel carburetor (nobody cared about gasoline prices in those days).

The seller’s Buick 4-door sedan is one of about 21,000 built in 1967, along with other body styles. We don’t know how long this car has been dormant, but the seller says the 30,000 miles on the odometer are honest. The seller got it running only to discover a loud flywheel noise that will have to be addressed before further attempts are made to drive it. The Electra wasn’t stored “properly” (we don’t know what that implies here), and there are some dents and dings in the rust-free sheet metal. The frame is said to be shipshape.

On the plus side, the blue interior is spotless, sans one minor seam separation and the dash pad. The seller has too many other projects asking for attention and won’t get around to restoring this beast. He/she also feels the asking price is a “steal” – do you agree? BTW, if you’re thinking about selling a car, “landscape” photos work best (no entire car pics offered here).

COULD be nice car with some work. That would make it a good car for family trips
However, what was the owner smoking to come up with that price?
