36K Mile Time Capsule: 1976 Cadillac Seville

Two low-mile 1976 Cadillac Sevilles in two weeks? It’s raining Sevilles here at Barn Finds and this nice example has 36,853 miles on it. The seller has it posted here on craigslist in Sebring Florida and they’re asking $18,000 or a reasonable offer. Thanks to Pat L. for sending in this tip! Here’s the original listing.

The seller shows a variety of photos including – are you sitting down? – an engine photo, so that’s great. A little over a week ago we saw a white 1976 Seville with red leather here on Barn Finds and that one had a few issues, but the seller was asking $10,400 less than this beautiful Emberglow Seville is priced at. I honestly don’t know which one I like better. Hagerty lists a #2 excellent condition Seville as being worth $12,800.

The only thing that draws my attention – and I know that it’s not fair to point things out on a 46-year-old car – is the rear bumper filler material. It appears to be a shade or two darker and I don’t know if it has just faded at a different rate or what that is about. If it’s original I’d leave it, there can’t be many Sevilles around in this condition. As a first-year Seville, when they were their own specific model, it’s nice to see this car so well preserved.

I’m not sure about the bronze exterior with a red interior but almost anything with a red interior works for me. This car looks perfect inside from what we can see in the photos. The seats basically look brand new both front and rear with just some slight wrinkling from use. I mentioned the rear bumper filler material as one thing that caught my eye and another one is the bottom corner of the driver’s door. I can’t tell if that’s original or not? Is that Cadillac’s standard of luxury-type build quality? Maybe for the mid-1970s.

The clean engine compartment houses an Oldsmobile 350 cubic-inch fuel-injected V8 which had 180 horsepower. The seller says that this car is 100% original and everything works right down to having ice-cold AC, new tires, and a new battery. Ok, it’s 99% original. Which Seville would you rather have, the white one that needed some work for $7,600 or this one for $18,000?

I dont care if this is just a gussied up Nova, but I liked them when new and this one looks TASTY. I suppose with inflation the cost would be higher but I always say get the best one you can afford and this looks GREAT! GLWTS!

Had one of these. Kept blowing head gaskets because of the aluminum heads.
Donated it to the American cancer society after 3 head gaskets

There is something furry red in the crack between the the seat back and seat bottom.

I just looked it up, this is analog EFI and not mechanical FI. My source (Wikipedia) says the 76 Seville was the first American mass produced car with EFI.

Not sure Wiki is 100% on that statement. Chevy used electronic fuel injection on the Vega Cosworth. Unless they fell that not a mass produced car. Bendix was tried in the late 50’s but was promptly cancelled. Bosch bought the license from Bendix and developed their own system called D-Jetronic which was used buy VW in the 60’s as well as other cars through 1975. Even in its analog design this was the foundation of all modern fuel injection. Instead of using a crank sensor they used mechanical points in the distributor to batch fire injectors. They used a mechanical MAP sensor to sense load and a coolant temp sensor to set the base mixture.

That fuzzy thing is exposed carpeting that is sewed to the back edge of the seat vinyl/leather and then wraps around the back of the seat bottom to trim that out. Normally not visible, but as the seat back foam collapses over time…

Thanks for the explanation about the seats Poppy. It makes perfect sense.

I had a bronze ’78 in perfect shape that I sold for $3500 back in the day. My wife said one of my cars had to go or she would. It took me a few days to decide and looking back, I think I made the wrong choice.

For 18 large, it would need a moonroof, true spokes, Vogues, a grille cap, a lot better color combo, mileage is great, but it’s an old man’s car, and I’m an old man, at least Cadillac Spoke wheel covers and 1.5inch whitewalls,
