38,000 Original Miles: 1994 Jeep Wrangler

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1994 Jeep Wrangler is a low-mileage truck with under 40,000 original miles, factory paint, and several desirable options. The YJ Wrangler is a great-looking version of the classic Wrangler and hails from an era of vehicles that is proving increasingly popular. The so-called “rad era” features loads of iconic 80s and 90s vehicles, and the YJ Wrangler is absolutely a staple of this period of automotive manufacturing. The seller is asking for all the money for this clean survivor as he’s looking for $33,500 here on eBay. That may be a fair starting point, however, considering how few of these Jeeps are left in this sort of condition.

Now, if I was building my perfect YJ, I’d look for a rare Islander edition with the 5-speed manual gearbox. Those Wranglers are still out there, of course, but like everything else that’s desirable, you’ll have to be in the right place at the right time to score one for a fair price. I doubt highly the seller paid close to $35,000 for this Wrangler, but kudos to him for finding a low-mileage survivor before anyone else did. The red paint shines nicely and the black hardtop still looks quite lustrious in terms of its exterior finish. Even the spare tire cover is mint.

The door panels are in nice shape and while the bucket seats are entirely ordinary in these older Wranglers – meaning there’s little in the way of extra bolstering and the materials aren’t particularly high-grade – they don’t appear to have spent years baking in the sun with the soft top down. The Jeep is equipped with an automatic transmission which isn’t the preferred choice for most Wrangler shoppers, but it’s honestly a good match for the torquey inline-six engine and may also come in handy off-road where you don’t want to be messing with gear selection in a sticky situation. The Jeep also comes with air conditioning, the overhead sound bar, side steps, and full carpeting.

Other options include the factory chrome package, a lockable storage compartment, and a Mopar hitch. The seller is absolutely correct that the 4.0L engine is bulletproof, perhaps one of the most legendarily overbuilt mills of our time, With under 38,000 miles, there is tons of life left in this powerplant, but here’s the hard part: even a 4.0L with 100,000 miles is going to be largely reliable. So, it’s hard to justify paying the asking price for the privilege of low mileage unless this is going into a private collection; otherwise, you’ll likely be just as happy with a nicely maintained Islander edition with 75,000 miles on the clock.

It never got used as intended, and at that price, sure won’t now. I prefer my off road stuff, scruffy. That way I can use them. Off road stuff is not great on the highway, for this price there are a lot of great road cars I would rather buy.

Ugly square headlights. The least desirable Jeep. Rather have a XJ or a CJ. Price is ludicrous, but anything goes in this market.
New York, and claimed no rust but no underbody shots. Better have been 100% garaged.

I recently sold my 1992 Sahara edition with 53K miles for $20K and thought I had done well. It was shipped to France. I hope this seller finds that special person that needs this lovely red one.
