38K Miles: 1977 Cadillac Eldorado

I believe this beautiful color is what Cadillac called Edinburgh Green, and it’s perfect for the golf course, not that all Cadillac Eldorado owners who live in South Florida play golf. This once-perfect 1977 Cadillac Eldorado has seen better days and is showing a few scrapes and off-color panels, but it can be found here on craigslist in Boca Raton, Florida, with an asking price of $8,500. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Michael for the tip!

Cadillac offered customers the ninth-generation Eldorado from 1971 through 1978, a year after GM resized most of its other full-sized cars. This car is just under 19 feet in length, a full 20 inches longer than the next-gen cars would be. You can see some paint variation in both doors, or maybe it’s the left front fender that’s lighter and the passenger door on the right side. I’m assuming it’s been touched up at some point, I can’t imagine Cadillac let it out of the factory like that.

There is a long indent along the lower side of the right front fender shown in the photo above, and possibly other issues outside. The seller is short on photos, and we don’t get to see the back of the car at all, inside the trunk, the underside, and, yes, sadly, the engine photo is non-existent. Hagerty is at $6,700 for a #4 fair-condition car and $13,100 for a #3 good car, as a general reference. This exterior needs work, with dings, dents, and dull paint in some areas.

The seats are optional Sierra grain leather in what appears to be Antique Medium Sage Green, and this is it for interior photos, other than one showing the passenger door panel for some reason. The driver’s door is more important, but we don’t see that area. As always, the photos in this listing are a total head-scratcher, and this seller has many other vehicles for sale, so they should know that potential buyers want to see tons of photos, not a select few.

The engine is under this giant hood; so close, yet so far. A quick pop of the hood release and we could have seen the Cadillac 425-cu.in. OHV V8. The heck with world peace and melting glaciers, my wish would be for sellers to always show the dang engine! COME ON! (Whew, that felt good.) This one was down from the famous 500-cu.in. V8 and this 425 had either 180 horsepower with a carb, or a bit more if it’s fuel injected. Is it? We don’t know, but we do know it runs and drives great, the AC is cold, and a three-speed automatic sends power to the front wheels. Any thoughts on this Eldorado?

I’d be leery of anything coming out of Florida with all the flooded out cars recently. Might be why they aren’t many pictures.

Looks like a driver to me. Use it and don’t worry about anything precious being worn out. But not 9 k. Maybe 4.5?

The heat is brutal in the summer and over time deteriorates the weather stripping in S Florida. This leads to moisture creeping into the interior, then it becomes a terrarium, and rust fog sets in on classics. Cars in the shade fair better over time.

Pardon my ignorance Michael being from Australia what is rust fog? I have never heard of that before .

Beautiful car. Unless one buys an Escalade consumers will never see giant Cadillac cars like this Eldorado again. This car poses a dilemma. It is too large for easy parking and maneuvering for everyday driving but needs pricey cosmetic work to be an antique and classic car contender. So I will have to admire the beloved personal luxury car from a distance.

Wish it was a barritz with the pillow top seats. I’d be all over it.
